Apparently you have a Linksys wireless router with the WAN port connected to the internet. You connect the pcs to the LAN side with a wireless configuration.
You will need a wireless port on the new pc. If it is a desktop you will need to insert a pci wireless card in it; you most likely can take it from the now defunct old desk top. You will need its drivers to get it to function. You can get these from the web site of the maker. You can connect a straight CAT5 cable from the computer's RJ45 network port to a wired LAN port of the router to get to the internet for the driver.
Install the wireless driver.
While on the internet, also go to the Linksys site, down load the manual and related drivers for the Linksys router and the latest firmware for it if they have a firmware newer than you currently have.
Once you have these, with the wired connection intact, upgrade the router firmware to the latest. Follow the manual directions. If you do not know the router's LAN IP, open command prompt (Start - Run, type in cmd and hit enter); type in "ipconfig /all" not including the quotes and including the space before the /all. This will show you info you will need. The wired port's IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway ip. The default gateway is the router ip. You will also see the MAC address of the wireless which is called Physical address - note this as you will need it later. If you do not see the wireless at this time, the drivers need be loaded first.
After the drivers have been loaded and the router configured for the LAN side wireless, be sure to address all security including MAC address validation. This is where you need the MAC address of the wireless device (as well as all other wireless devices you want to have access the router).
Now go back to command prompt. Type in "ipconfig /all" without quotes and hit enter. You should see LAN IP addresses for both the wired and wireless connection. Disconect the wired line to the router. Type in "ping 4.2.2.2" without quotes and hit enterp you should be getting 4 positive responses from the internet. Type in "ping yahoo.com" without the quotes and hit enter; you shoudl be getting 4 positive responses from the internet. At this point you are live.
If your new pc is a notebook with built in wireless you do not need wireless device drivers on the notebook as it has them; all the rest of the info above should be done.
If you have any problem, write again telling what you did and we can further help.

If you mean the disc for the Linksys Router, then you should not need it. All routers have an I.P address, most linksys routers are set to 192.168.1.1 and you will be able to configure it there. If you lost a driver that allows you to connect with a wireless card, then go to this site: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1115416939789&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper and select your product, the driver should be there, and then transfer it over to the laptop.
