Use mothers wax and "000" steel wool. Make sure to use "000" it is much finer and will not scratch or leave swirls. Rub the rust off then wipe clean with a cloth.

I found this at the link below. I've done it to lots of things since then and it works great.

It depends on how deep the rusting is, and how much of it there is. You could use Naval Jelly, if the problem is that serious. For very light, to remove rust you can use a stiff toothbrush and some WD-40. A great way to remove rust is with extra-fine steel wool (grade 4-0 – 8-0). 8-0 will also polish chrome and aluminum. If you do use Naval Jelly, be sure to be careful not to let it get on other surfaces. You also might want to test one lug before using it on all of them."

ooo steel wool from the hardware store works great on chrome and even for small scratches in glass.

Is it Chrome? if it is chrome you can use coca-cola and it will help that. if its not chrome then you may use like the gentlemen said up top, mother wax and 000 steel wool. it should do the job.
