ever heard the phrase "one man's heaven is another man's hell?". Its made me wonder as well, as the question basically is about the nature of heaven or hell. Harps and clouds sound terribly boring, but then most things we enjoy here are "mortal", meaning being just a soul with no body you would have no need to eat. or drink. so you couldn't party, or take drugs (as you wouldn't have a bloodstream, heart or brain to process these things). also, if you look at the earliest interpretations of hell, it was called Sheol- which is essentially a landfill or garbage pile. the eternal fire thing was added on, as people typically burn garbage. But the real definition of hell was defined as being cast away from God, unable to "know" him. which sounds closer to the root of our version, "Hel" is the Norse afterlife (for those who don't die in battle) which is basically a frozen cave. Its dull and very cold. not eternal "torment" but basically eternal boredom and discomfort.
a joke: guy dies and goes to heaven. St.Peter offers to give him a tour, and the man agrees. when they enter an elevator St.Peter makes a condition. "when we go by the fifth floor- you have to absolutely silent" the guy nods, confused. and the tour begins. 2nd floor, we got the catholics. on the 3rd floor, the presbyterians 4th floor we have the lutherans. and then St. peter puts his finger over his mouth in the "sh" gesture. ... 6th floor, methodists - and the tour continues, listing all the worlds denominations and religions. " so any questions?" asks St.Peter. "ah. yeah. whats with the fifth floor?" asks the guy. St.Peter winks and says "thats the evangelicals. they think they're the only ones here."

I always wondered why a creator who was "infinite love" would put his children into a burning hell forever...political control is what hell is about...Hell is a man made terror for the masses...to keep them in line....but being anywhere with religious zealots doesn't sound like too much fun.

Since we don't decide who gets to Heaven, neither do the "born-agains". I'd work towards being acceptable for Heaven 'cause they might not make it there. I don't believe many pushy, 'holier-than-thou' folk really know what it means to be a Christian.

Heaven would be so much better. would you rather walk on streets paved with gold, everything is perfection [including yourself], and being with the everlasting God or walk in the fiery [but pitch black] pits of hell with demons hissing in your ears?

I understand that the world hates us. the Bible tells us so.

John 15:

18 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: 'Servants are not greater than their master.' [b] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Those who hate me hate my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.'

But besides that, would you really pass up an eternity in Heaven?
With the Ultimate Creater.. Friend.. Father.. Protector.. Comforter.. Healer.. FORGIVER.
He is SOO much more..but these are the basics.

and not just that, but He loves you!

Would you really rather be in Hell?!

“And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments. . .” Luke 16:23

The man in Luke 16:24 cries: ". . .I am tormented in this FLAME."

In Matthew 13:42, Jesus says: "And shall cast them into a FURNACE OF FIRE: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."

In Matthew 25:41, Jesus says: "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting FIRE,. . ."

Revelation 20:15 says, " And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the LAKE OF FIRE."

Anything is better.

P.S. Why aren't they called 'reborn'? Just because the Bible butchers the English language, does that mean they have to also?
