My car stutters when it starts. As long as I don't let the car sit to long before I start it again it starts up fine. But if I let it sit all day the next time I try to start it it stutters again.

Easiest thing is just take it to local auto store and have them check it for free.

I would say your battery is on its last legs. What happens is when batterys get old they loose their ability to hold a charge. That is why it is hard to start after it has sat a couple of days. Every time you drive your car the altinator automatically recharges your battery, so it should be easy to start after sitting for a short period of downtime, it has not been idle long enough to lose a good deal of charge. In my experience most batteries only last 4 to 6 years before they need to be replaced

You should have your car's electrical system checked by a qualified mechanic. The problems you are talking about could be a bad battery, but it could also be a fault in the electrical system that is slowly draining the battery, and if that is the case, a new battery will be no better than the old.

Have your battery cable connections to the battery posts cleaned for "starters". Replace any battery that's 5 years old or more and any battery that doesn't hold a charge and fails battery testing. Add distilled water to the cells of any battery, even a "maintenance free" battery with removable caps that's a few years old.

If the engine actually starts running, no matter how badly, that's not the battery's fault. If it cranks slowly or barely at all, I can almost guarantee the battery will fail within 48 hours.

Believe it or not there are people out there who don't know how to test batteries, go to a shop that has a charging system analyzer (they cost $1200.00 AND UP) AND HAVE THEM LOAD TEST THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR
