as a now-retired on-the-road musician myself, i find that i get bored pretty quickly if the music is not interesting, challenging, and creative. ( if i can play the thing after hearing about 4 bars, i just tune it out as 'more of the same ol' hash...' )

that's why i've always LOVED art-rock. YES, emerson-lake-n-palmer, DreamTheatre...those guys don't play a lick of that damm tired old blues idiom, and don't give a rip if you don't get it, can't dance to it...it's about THE MUSIC for the art's sake of it.

YES has been at it for almost 40 years, and their latest stuff is just as mind-blowing and creative as their stuff from the 70's...
