lol Jay Buhner was not a career .300 hitter. He was a career .254 hitter and never hit over .280. And he only had 3 seasons in which he hit more than 30 home runs. Anyway the worst trade for the Tigers was probably when they traded John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander EDIT: One of the worst trades ever by any team was when the San Francisco Giants traded Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, and Boof Bonser for .... AJ Pierzynski. Pierzynski played exactly one year for the Giants and gave up Nathan, who became one of the games best closers, and two future aces in Liriano and Bonser. Just an absolutely terrible trade. Also the Dodgers traded Pedro Martinez to the Expos for Delino Deshields. And the Tigers got Carlos Guillen for Ramon Santiago, who rejoined the Tigers a couple years later. Guillen became the first player in modern baseball history to raise his batting average in 6 consecutive seasons and is on pace to do so again this year.

well am only 14 so the worst one i can think of in my life time is the redsox trading hanley ramirez.well some may not see it as a big deal but i do.do u see the numbers that hes putting up for the florida marlins including winning NL rookie of the year last season and hes also a young player and hes got a bright future a head of him in MLB. but i guess all us redsox fans can look on the bright side of this, that we got josh beckett in that trade.

I, as a Cleveland fan, say Coco Crisp, who is doing pretty well this year and could easily replace our .230 hitting outfielder, for Andy Marte, who, despite winning the AAA home run derby, turned out to be a bust.
But worst trade ever would be when Frank Lane traded superpopular Rocky Colavito Detroit for Harvey Kuenn. (Pronounced Keen.) That GM was the worst ever.
However, those trades up there don't look so good. maybe #1 was even worse than the Coco Crisp deal.

1997: Seattle Mariners trade Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe for Heathcliff Slocumb of the Boston Red Sox.
Although BoSox fans will disagree, I think this was the dumbest move the M's has made.
Worst. Trade. Ever.

The D-Backs trading 6 players for Richie Sexson, one of which is now an all-star pitcher (Chris Capuano) and another being Lyle Overbay. He only played for a few weeks and than tore up his shoulder on a check swing. After the season ended he signed with the Mariners.

Yankees make bad free-agent signings more often than bad trades, but this question made me think of the Seinfeld episode when Frank Costanza complained to George Steinbrenner about the Yankees trading Jay Buhner for Ken Phelps. I miss that show.

The Royals trading David Cone to the Mets for Ed Hearn and Mauro Gozzo. The Royals may have got another minor leaguer in that trade, but I can't remember. Hearn had kidney failure, skin cancer and was constantly contemplating suicide and Gozzo never amounted to anything.
