i had the same issue when i went back to get my Ph.D. I figured that by the time I finished I would be 37 yrs old and wondered if that was too old.
my mother had the best advice out of anyone for me at the time.
she told me to ask myself, "Would you rather be 37 with a Ph.D. in a field of interest or a 37 year old who wondered whether or not he could have had that degree and career?"
if you want it go for it. don't let anyone tell you you're too old, not good enough, or incapable for any other reason. it's your life and your dream. and nothing creates more regret than a dream not persued. i wish you the best in whatever decision you make.

A coroner is an elected position and the requirements vary from state to state. You would have to check your specific election laws. Any type of pathologist requires a medical degree. There are other jobs in the same field that do not require a full medical degree - so you might want to check out other options if you don't see 8-10 years of medical school in your future. As far as being too old - ask yourself how old you will be in 10 years if you DON'T do this? It puts things in perspective when you think of it that way. Good luck with your dream.

A coroner is generally a medical doctor with a specialization in forensics. This, of course, is not necessary. In one county I lived in in the past we had a podiatrist as the coroner. I would suggest you start by getting an associates in nursing. That way you can get a good paying job that will allow you to continue on while you get a B.S in nursing. Combine that with a B.A. in criminal justice and you should be able to get into a state police laboratory.
The coroner is actually a political position in most areas. You are aware, however, that forensic pathologists do not do what they do on CSI and other TV shows, right?

You're never too old to follow your dreams. Go to your nearest University, and ask about the requirements for the degree you want. Then decide if you really want to do it, and do it.

Too old? That's nuts. Find out how much schooling is required. How old will you be when you are done? At that age do you expect you won't be able to work? Then you are not too old.
