All thoughout history, successful people have had one thing over unsuccessful people - the power of positive thinking. I mean, think about it. when your single, you can't get date, but the minute you become "new in love" everybody wants you.
They call it the law of attraction and say you will "Draw" people to you who can help you. I think it's kind of the opposite. When you decide what you want and focus on what you want - first, you put yourself in a position to do the work to get those things and second, you "put out that vibe". Imagine your dream is to be a professional actor. For a long time, you don't believe you can then suddenly one day you decide your going for it. You start talking about it. I'd be willing to bet that in any crowd, there are and eight of the people who have some connection to Broadway. If your standing in a mall and say aloud "I want to go to Broadway and become a star" at least one person will walk up to you and say "My uncle is a Stage manager - when you get there, look him up!" So when you change from youdefestist belief that you can't live your dreams into a positive emptional state, those people who have been standing beside you will suddenly step up to help you. Then you move to New York and your surrounded by even more people! You "Drew them" by your actions.
Same for a soul mate. Every single person has at least one person who thinks there just the bees knees. When you put yourself into believeing you can have love - you notice that person.
What the mind can achieve, you can concieve.
There is nothing new in this. it's been used by the Getty's Oprah Winfrey and everyone else whose name you've ever heard of. It's all about believeing you can - that it's already so - it's spending money with faith there will be more and a thousand other techniques headed down the generations. It's in a very nice and understandable package and I would recommend it, But, like any other self help product, if your not willing to do the work, then it will fail.

The bare bones outline of The Secret is that you can will your own success by learning to engage your positive energy. If it sounds a bit strange, it's because it truly is. Even though the promises of success that The Secret claims are completely bogus, I wish I could say that there was some good self-help lesson to be gotten from the project. Unfortunately, The Secret reinforces me-centered living and equates "success" solely with "financial success." By purchasing the DVD or book you will only enrich the lives on those who have created this trash. In the past twenty years, there must have been hundreds, if not thousands, of similar books, DVDs, programs, and infomercials claiming the exact same thing as The Secret. It's immoral to believe that happiness and success can be purchased online or at the bookstore. Stay away from this trash if you value your humanity.

Like so many "self-help" books, it is simply a mixture (and, often, a misinterpretation or exploitation or exaggeration) of philosophy, psychology and science.
It is entirely logical, and has been discussed in philosophy for a long time (search"Ralph Waldo Emerson Self-Reliance" if you want an example,) that those who think positively and those who endure hardships will be "successful."
Attraction to people who are "positive" (as differentiated from "optimistic") is biological. Without arguing whether God did it or it's a result of selection, humans are going to band with someone who can inspire them to continue on. This positive outlook reinforces the innate "will to survive," though in self-help, they are basically reinforcing another characteristic, the "will to power." We are attracted to these people not by any magical aura, but by subconscious cues, such as their appearance, their attitude, their words, etc. Their is a reason Hitler was initially successful- he spoke positively in a time when people did not have much opportunity. If you would like a more attractive example, think of Franklin Roosevelt or Winston Churchill (Never, never, never give up.) A positive person bounces back and looks for opportunity.
Statistics also has a say in this matter. Take any sampling of people, based on any characteristic, and you can find enough that have "used this method" (which is how it becomes a "proven method") to "succeed," from which you can write a book. Moreover, if you follow any method that calls for perseverance, you will likely come to some level of "success," if you define the term to mean a "betterment from your current situation."
After all, success is relative. Would Bill Gates consider a millionaire successful? Probably not. But I sure as hell would. William Faulkner considered Hemingway the greatest failure of his generation! The people who have "succeeded" using this method have simply persevered.
Something else to consider is that, when you play the odds (by trying, failing, repeating) you will eventually come into "success." That is what this book talks about and it has to- everyone knows you will fail, eventually, and you must learn to overcome failure.
You can equate this (and any self-help methodology) to an exercise program or diet program. Yes, people do succeed. They stick to it through ups and downs. They are often people who need to lose weight/get in shape (as those in need of self-help are often people who have very little, or who have never really tried to push themselves,) and, as such, they are prone to "success." Yes, a man of 500 pounds body fat will lose half his weight on Weight Watchers. However, I (at 180) could not hope to acheive that goal through Weight Watchers alone- there is a point of diminishing returns.
What is the secret? The secret is, as has been said, whether or not you think you are happy with your life, you are very likely correct. "Success" is a perspective, not a location.

any book that helps you understand how to think prosperous and remove self-defeating thoughts is life changing. The secret is that the person who put this book together is standing on the shoulders of mental giants and reaping the benefits without the work or time invested. I can't imagine she really cares as much as you would think. BUT I could be wrong. Realize your own greatness that is more than enough

What's so special about it is that its author found a way to make a lot of money by recycling some psycho-babble advice that wasn't really new in the 1960's the first time I heard it. But if it's new to you, it can be helpful. I wouldn't say "life-changing" unless you've been living in complete isolation all your life.

I haven't read the book, but I saw the film, which has interviews with all of the collaborators. I found it interesting and insightful, although using "the secret" for me is using common sense. Basically, it is about personal empowerment, and how to design the life you want to live by using the law of attraction. It's special because it opens up a lot of amazing possibilities...
