Honestly, I have several things that come to mind when I think of the 'loveliest smell'.

Honeysuckle has an amazing sweet smell to it.

A freshly cleaned and swaddled baby about to doze off to sleep.

Lavender has a relaxing sweet smell to me; but Lilacs are also another favorite.

Fresh baked homemade cinnamon rolls - I know you just took a deep breath right then didn't you?

Wedding Cake and wedding cake icing - rich sweetness!

Newly cut grass and the freshness after a rain shower!

Eucalyptus and spearmint have a crisp clean smell which I love.

The way my Dad smelled after he had come home from a hard day of work. Yeah he was dirty and most would say he smelled bad ~ but I thought he smelled great, dirt and all!

Really, if you think about it - the reason something smells good to you may be because of a special memory that it brings back every time you smell it.

So the 'loveliest smell' is all in the eyes or (nose) of the beholder!

Five smells:
1) When orange blossoms are in bloom and I'm driving by the groves
2) When someone bakes something and when I step into the house, the smell hits me. My tummy growls like right then and there
3) The smell of coffee beans roasting at the Maxwell House plant in my hometown. I wish coffee tasted like that
4) The smell of popcorn popping at a movie theater. Something in it makes you spend $85 for a 55-gallon bucket. Mmm... Extra butter please!
5) The smell when you walk into a humidor in a cigar shop. That's a great smell. Makes me wanna smoke.

When my son was a tiny baby I remember the sweet smell on his breath from the milk. I loved that smell and it's one of my favourite memories from when he was tiny.
I also used to live in Slough (UK) and was very close to the Mars factory. If the wind was blowing in the right direction I could smell the chocolate!

For me it is not always the smell, but the memory that it envokes.
I will always remember the smell of lillies of the valley and how they reminded me of my childhood since the flowers were planted outside my bedroom. I will always smell pipe tobacco and think of my grandfather who died 4 weeks before my first child was born. I will always smell oil of olay and think of my grandmother. Old spice reminds me of my dad. They are all good memories and in my mind great scents. White Diamonds perfume reminds me of my mom.
Lillies of the valley are my favorite flower still to this day.
