Does anyone know any online websites or people who repair or have steering columns for an 89 RS camaro. I've got it in the shop right now because it wouldnt start but it was a simple short in something under the distributer cap, but when it was dead my roomate helped me push it off the road and he wanted to do the steering and the bush was needing replacement before anyways but he pushed way to hard and completely turned the whole column, ignition and all so it has to be completely replaced.

The shop it's in now has apparently called everyone they know in the southeast for one and no one seems to carry them anymore, but they're still looking and I'm just trying to look around as well.

also I found one only but it's for an 89 IROC camaro, I was wondering if a steering column from that would be compatible with the RS model.

Phone or visit any wrecker as to replace any steering column assembly is an everyday job for theft recoveries and/or accidents. I've done tons of these. If you don't have success with this, I would suggest you contact your insurance company or a body shop as they are the ones that can find these things pronto as these were the people that I dealt with all the time. Columns for the Z28 or anything similar are exactly the same as yours.

yea they are interchangable, BUT you have an 89, the first year GM offerd the VATTS key, the one with the chip in it, you also have a module that will not send power to the dist if that key isnt in it, there was i THINK 5-8 different chips in the keys, here is the thing you can disable this one option involves finding out what resistance your chip is and putting a resistor in line, but anyway http://www.thirdgen.org should help you out, you may be lucky be able to use your old lock cylender and key, or some previous owner removed the chip system, i have an 89 and mine still has the chip in it and is all factory so im not to sure on the over ride process

Yes, the 89 iroc steering column will work. It may have additional features that your column did not originally come with, such as, cruise or inter mitten wiper control, but it will work.

Get it at U-Pull or %. Yur section. That way as you're taking the salvage section out, you will straightforward procedures to paintings on it. i could recommend slicing the wires and leaving the plugs on so which you would be able to tournament up once you place it at the same time on your automobile and don't could desire to guess the place issues plug as you learn the plug on the column and the plug contained in the automobile. Do them one by employing one to avert mixing them up. this is going to be a huge and confusing interest. If there are any ligh bulbs in there, replace them on an analogous time as they're straightforward to get to. Mybe you will desire a door handle or 2 once you're there. they're low priced.
