For a sprinter it can be a long swim but if you're used to swimming 200 it's actually pretty easy. You just really have to pace yourself and conserve energy if you want to get a good time.

I swam a 200 free in competition once and I did OK for a first timer, I got a 2:32 and change but what could I do? My first 50 split was a 34.6, then about a 36 then a 39 and lastly a 42. It was pretty bad but I'm not a 200 or 500 swimmer personally.

A 200 hundred isn't really a long swim. I've been swimming on a swim team now for 3 years and it is so easy now once you get used to it. You have to pace yourself and not go all out on the first 50. I have a 2:14 and i'm in eight grade

For a beginner or someone out of shape, 200 yards is a long swim. In a 25-yard pool, it's eight laps.

For a swimmer who practices regularly, 200 yards is a warmup. ;-)

The girl above me and the guy above her are right...if you are inexperienced, it is a very long swim. I swim 100s in races and I have been swimming every summer for 3 years. It is STILL hard for me. Just practice alot and it will get easier and easier.

In a standard racing pool, this is equivalent to about 8 laps.

It depends if your a beginner or a competitive swimmer.....a 200 seems really long, but its not as long as 2 football fields, just pace yourself.......you will be fine

For a competitive swimmer a warm-up is between a 300 nd a 500

Thats my favorite event during swim season!!! I'm trying to get my time down past 3:00 mins flat.. In a 20 yd pool, like we have in my high school's pool is 10 lengths, 5 laps. Its easy, as long as you pace yourself.

It depends on your experience.

Like the guy above me said, a 200 for a beginner may seem daunting. To a competitive swimmer, it's the first part of a warmup!
