Diziness in the first trimester is caused by low blood sugar and also by a drop in your blood pressure, which gets more blood to the baby, but less to your brain/head.
Here are some tips that might help:
1. Avoid standing for long periods. If you must stand, make sure that you keep your feet moving to help increase circulation
2. Get up slowly from either sitting or lying down
3. Eat regularly. Avoid long periods between meals; it is better to snack throughout the day
4. Avoid hot baths or showers
5. Avoid lying on your back once you reach the middle of your second trimester
6. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to avoid restricting circulation
7. Try Dramamine for motion sickness if your doctor ok's it. Be sure to use the formula that is NOT non-drowsy
Sometimes, doctors can prescribe antihistimines or monoaminergics to help with dizziness, but every drug carries risks, so the benefits should outweigh the side effects.

RE:
I'm 5 weeks pregnant and have been getting very dizzy everytime I stand or lay down.?
I am 5 weeks pregnant and I just found out about a week ago. Before I found out I was pregnant I had been getting very dizzy more than usual. I have Vertigo so I get dizzy a few times a week, but the past month it is every day and every time I lay down or get out of bed. It's very exhausting....

At the end of the day, it's your decision and all people can do is offer their opinion and experience in this situation. Personally, I wouldn't abort as I don't see Down's syndrome as a severe enough disability to justify it. In another two weeks, your baby is viable and stands a good chance of survival outside of the womb. Several babies have survived in neonatal intensive care units from 22 weeks gestation onwards. Whilst there are some health complications sometimes associated with the syndrome, a lot of Downs children live extremely happy lives. I've known several in my life and I can honestly say that they were a lot happier than most of the unaffected children I know. They are also very loving. My mum knows a Downs lady in her late twenties who is actually an actress and has her own home. I would suggest you talk to a counsellor before doing anything drastic as they are impartial and can offer some really good advice. In addition to this, you could go and see your doctor and find out what caring for a child with Downs actually involves. At the end of the day, this is still your baby. Abortion is not something to be taken lightly and can cause you permanent psychological damage. If you decide to continue with your pregnancy, whether it is difficult or not, you will adjust to having a child who needs a little extra care. I hope you manage to reach a decision that you are happy with and wish you all the best for the future.

I don't have vertigo but I did get dizzy early on in pregnancy. It's a combination of the hormone surge and sensitivity to blood sugar levels that usually trigger it. Make sure you don't go too long in between meals to keep your blood sugar up (they suggest 4 small meals a day and two snacks--all healthy of course). My other suggestion would be to talk to your doctor about motion sickness pills--the kind they give for airplane and sea sickness. Sometimes they give these to women who have bad morning sickness because some of the benefits are that it alleviates nausea and dizziness. Talk to your doctor and see if this is an option for you.
Good luck and congrats!

Having suffered from vestibular migraine for years. I can really appreciate when someone understands a sufferer's frustration, worry and despair. The Ultimate Vertigo Protocol is like having a real human guide you to a vertigo free life. As soon as I started to apply the method, I have noticed improvements. Now, 7 days later, it feels like living a miracle. I would highly recommend this book to I anyone with vertigo & dizziness

Try getting up and out of the bed or chair slowly. Don't just get up. Take your time. after from laying down, sit up slowly and sit for a few seconds then get up. It helps. Usually pregnant women don't get dizzy or lightheaded until the 2nd trimester. If you're concern, call your doctor.

Although I don't know much about vertigo ,you can get dizzy from low blood sugar. Drink some orange juice or suck on hard candy.

It is normal in pregnancy to get dizzy, the reason why is because your body is producing 40% more blood than normal. This happens to me ALL the time. When you feel like this just sit down and wait for it to pass. Congrats and good luck!!

its a common side effect of pregnancy, your blood pressure usually drops while pregnant, and your body is adjusting to it. Try standing up slowly, not turning quickly, and don't wear high heeled shoes, they will only throw you more off balance

My midwife suggested that I use ear oil to treat the same problem. I was super dizzy...room spinning. I got garlic and willow ear oil from the health food store and treated my ears. It stopped the problem. The ear oil is the best for a teething baby too. My babies both tend to get ear infections when their teeth are pushing through... this oil will prevent or stop ear infections and many trips to the doctor.
