No. Yes, it was a horrible thing. It was outlawed. Get over it. It will not reduce racial tension anyway. I think those states that apologized are just pacifiers.

Its only a civilized circulate to convey regret for historic previous like human beings wrongly accused interior the previous who've died can nevertheless get a pardon. Its unlike they're asserting to black human beings alive dazzling now they're asserting sorry because of the fact in a feeling a similar government the single of united states is asserting sorry for its rules which allowed slavery on their soils. They didnt convey regret whilst slavery became into abolished and yet have not so its stable they're going to now and you need to the two be racist or have white guilt to have a situation approximately this. Are you and fellow white being compelled to declare sorrry?? No so why protest against a circulate which has taken this long to be completed nicely your forefathers ought to of pronounced sorry and you will not be asking this question via the way jews indian and so forth weren't enslaved interior the U. S. on a similar mass as black human beings playstation Mississippi in basic terms ratification the thirteenth substitute March sixteen, 1995, after having rejected it on December 5, 1865. meaning they only formally agreed with the abolition of slavery in 1995 Its a competent ingredient they're apologizing and you aint not extra effective than a black American complaining approximately slavery you complaining appropriate to the government which by no ability renowned it became into incorrect till at last now that they're going to formally convey regret in case you already know what meaning I do and im in basic terms 17

I do not think that the government should apologize for slavery. What difference is that going to make on the black community? NONE. And I don't think that it will reduce racial tension. Prejudice and bigotry begin at home (which I feel is the reason racial tension still exist). I think diversity plays an important role in accepting people of other ethnic groups. If we would take the time to get to know people for who they are and not what they look like we would realize they are just like us.

1) It never hurts to apologize.
2) Doing so won't "help racial tension," either.
3) The U.S. already did something much more important than apologize for slavery. This country banned it. It's called the 13th Amendment.

No there should be no apologies at all. It was bad and it ended over 100 years ago. I don't know anyone at all that was alive when slavery was still around. Why would anyone that had nothing to do with it have to apologize to people that had nothing to do with it. Ludacris is what these apologies are...who are they apologizing to? Not one person that was a slave is still alive, so who are they saying I'm Sorry to? The thugs that roam the streets and kill eachother. It's totally insane to apologize for something you had nothing to do with.

I think that 163 + years have passed since the Civil War and that the South should stop "fighting the Civil War" when it comes to people in America working in the South. Who cares? My people had NOTHING to do with the Civil War and slavery. We didn't have ANYTHING to do with carpetbaggers either!
As for apologies for slavery - you are going to the wrong folks for that - go to the ones who captured blacks from the Western coast of Africa - Portugal, Spain, France, and Britain
and sold them to slave traders in the Virgin Islands. Of course it doesn't help to not "make someone pay" for all the injustice in regard to slavery, but its time to forget it, pick oneself up by the bootstraps and get going again.

Acceptance of the past is the first step toward recovery in the future. Will it help in the direct present? Very little. Sounds like AA doesnt it. As to whom they should apologize to - no one in particular. The apologizer himself/itself can gain much by realizing it wrong.
edit: Wow, I had no clue so many people could be against it.
You dont need slavery day, there is black history month.
SSracing - and how many country have a line in their government stating equality of man? If you want US to be leader of nations, it should be the first one to recognize mistakes. Seems to me people think apologizing is a weakness?
Gable - Our conflict in the Middle East started long before Bush became president, yet we have to pick up on it. We represent our country, past and present.
Nature lover - learning history doesnt do anything practical for anyone, yet we value it highly. Why? because we can learn from it and you cant learn if you dont admit your past.
Jacob W - I dont want to put down women's rights or whatever but...slavery literally consumed the entire being of each slave.

Are they going to issue one for the genocide on the native Americans while the were enslaving a whole other race?
Are we not the most hypocritical country in the world?
Who are we to lecture others on peace and democracy when this country was built on genocide and slavery.

Apologize to whom? Is there anyone in congress responsible for slavery? Are there any former slaves around?
Sounds like a stupid, pandering, political ploy to me.
Who else to we apologize to? Women because they were not allowed to vote? Irish Catholics because they were discriminated against? Jews because FDR sent a ship load of them back to Germany? For crying out loud, what country has not got some ugly events in it's past?

No.
It would be a nice show, but it would make absolutely no difference to all the people living with the repercussions of slavery. And I dont like big political shows that accomplish nothing.
