This is not a hard question. You could answer it rather easily yourself if you were to think about it. If you have to right a paper, it will be easier to consider a major discovery or invention that has impacted your life. What modern medicines have helped you or your relatives? What developments have arisen in physics which have impacted warfare or aeronautics?
Maybe there's a pill which helps individuals overcome laziness and improves school performance.

What's the rush? When you die you may be living across the country and that money will be wasted. Instead, start a savings account and deposit a little every month, making your estate the beneficiary and naming your executor (whom you should give power of attorney) as administrator. When you die he/she can pull the money out at once and pay cash, maybe even getting a discount for it. If you want a burial plot in s specific place, buy it on installments.

Google this, or Jeeves this, say, under major ' Science Discoveries', and then narrow down your search to the last 30 years, then narrow down further according to what piques your attention -- something that really impresses you as being "major" and not what someone else renders most important... See?

Last 30 years? Gotta be the internet. No other invention in that timeframe has a affected our daily lives so deeply.

going to the other persons comments. when you say internet, what most of us think of is the world wide web. and web browsers. the browsers allowed for more control over the appearance of public information. and quicker access to public information. but both made major marks on history.
