I never really thought about it and just always assumed that the first moon landing was real. Then someone pointed out to me many things that dont make sense and which indicate that it could have all been a set up.

Examples of the reasons = http://www.facts-about.org.uk/science-moon-landing-conspiracy-hoax-theory.htm

What do u beleive? Did it really happen or was it a set up?

Just because u watched it on tv doesnt necessarily mean its real. Not much of tv is real! What i mean is, was it a real recording or did they stage it and act it all out somewhere in a studio?

Although my wife's father performed fuel calculations for the original Apollo landing, I'll spare you that speech. Instead, I will encourage you to watch two programs. The first show is called Conspiracy Moon Landing that it currently showing on the National Geographic Channel and it pretty much obliterates all of the popular conspiracy theories.

I would also encourage you to watch a movie called Capricorn One. Made it 1978, it is a fictional story about a fake mission to Mars. Although it is a science fiction story, it is a good example of how utterly impossible it would be to fake a moon landing for any length of time.

12 men walked on the moon from 1969 to 1972 and we have neither the resources nor the technology to pull off that big of a hoax for so long. Hundreds of thousands of people have worked on the space program. It would be far easier to put someone on the moon than to try and fake it and keep it secret for nearly 40 years.

The landings came at a time when our space program was ultra competitive with the former Soviet Union. Remember how big of a deal it was when Sputnik was put into orbit? They had the technology to monitor our moon shots and transmissions. Don't you think they would have called us out if they had evidence that it was all fake?

Perhaps the most definitive proof of our trip to the moon is what we left behind. For the last 35+ years, scientists have been beaming lasers to the moon and measuring the return times. How are they doing this? The beams are reflected back by equipment left on the moon on at 3 different locations.

Case closed.

I'm just going to point out 3 things real quick that make me think the conspiracy people are loons.

1, the flag is illuminated, well duh, yeah. go outside, take a piece of fabric hold it to a light source behind you, can you make out the color of the fabric on the other side, YES!

2. The dust thrown up by the moon rover goes up in a perfect mathematical parabola, not floating around as it does in Earth's atmosphere.

3. If we didn't, and the USSR thought we didn't, then why didn't they say anything. It would've been a big blow against the USA (remember at the time the USA and USSR were in the middle of the Cold War).

I've read or seen every reason of the conspiracy debunked. This theory is the worst I've ever seen, the sad fact is some people actually believe this.

There are so many pointers that suggest it was a hoax...and some of them ring true in isolation...well in theory anyway.....although I believe that Nassa have answered them all in turn categorically....

I think the biggest argument for it being a hoax was simply the date - 1969 - did they really have the means to carry this out? Computers were hardly mainstream - I struggle to believe they had the knowledge or ability to achieve this - and even more hard to fathom is how they got back again once there.....more recent shuttle disasters in a far more high-tech world put the whole thing into perspective and I think now, in 2007, it would still be an extremely ambitious thing to do to send men to the moon...

The biggest argument to me in favour of it happening...well that has to be how people in the know [and there must have been many for there to have been a hoax]......have not subsequently let on. Someone would have taken some money.....let something slip......and I don't believe that a cover up of that size could ever have happened....

I guess we will never know...well unless they devise a strong enough telescope so that we can actually see the face of the moon and the USA flag there!

Your link is actually full of inaccuracies!!!

The easiest way to tell is to point an astronomical telescope at the landing sites on the moon. Part of each landing module and other junk was left behind after each moon landing. If the landings are real then that junk will be there. If it's not then your theory that the landings were fake would be vindicated.

The claims of hoax proponents have all been easily refuted.

For example:
http://liftoff.msfc.nasa.gov/News/2001/News-MoonLanding.asp
http://www.vho.org/tr/2003/1/Rudolf75-81.html
http://www.braeunig.us/space/hoax-jw.htm

Many of the hoax claims are just silly, from a scientific standpoint.
Unfortunately, a lot of conspiracy theorists are good at fooling the average layman by BSing through the technical details.

Yes i believed it happened, there were too many tracking stations around the world and they were tracked all the way to the moon.

The Russians were also in the race for the moon, and they were tracking it too, and they would have kicked up holy hell had there been the slightest cover up or hoax by the US !.

I think it must be a hoax, there is no way its happened so many years ago and no-one else has has come forward and admitted to ever landing on the moon, why would Neil be the only person to land there?

"Hi boys and girls, and welcome to the Rosie O'Donnell Conspiracy Theorist Show..."

"Yes, we're gonna have some fun today so, let's kick things off by bringing up that all-time favorite conspiracy theory of ours:
"Did man really land on the moon or was it all a hoax?"

"Ok, so let's begin twisting the facts and making a mockery out of JFK's promise to land a man on the moon by the end of the 1960's, with our favorite oversized, lesbo, radical left-wing pinhead conspiracy theory expert, and our host...
Mr. Rosie O'Donnell....take it away, Rosie..."

This idiocy falls into the same category as the 9/11 conspiracy bullsh*t, the OJ Simpson acquittal and other assorted fairytales.
The people propagating this nonsense are truly delusional cranks and I'm surprised that you've actually taken this bullsh*t seriously.

Yes it did really happen - I watched it on TV. It was recorded and as for the flag fluttering argument well.....there is a few reasons for it happening....such as jarring when put in the groud, vibrations from the planting of it.....things continue to spin or flutter in space as there is nothing to act against that in the form of atmosphere.
