You've got to have a SSN to file a tax return. You cannot claim someone as a dependent over the age of 2 without a SSN.

Right now it is not a requirement to have a legal I.D. However, in order to get a job you have to produce at least one form of legal I.D. Most people show 2----social xecurity card and drivers license. You can't get a loan without an ID. You can't get on welfare without an ID.

In other words, if you don't plan to work and pay taxes, don't plan to own anything, don't plan to go on any kind of public assistance, you don't need an ID.

There is no law that requires a person to obtain a driver's license. However, not having some type of government issued photo id may make life difficult. A SS card is an effective form of identification, but it doesn't have a picture. If you don't want a DL, just get a state issued photo ID.

No. There isn't a law that says you must have one under all circumstances. However, it is very difficult if you don't have them. You cannot file taxes, get any federal benefits, or enroll in any public educational institution, without at least a social security number. Please note, only the feds can ask for your social security number. Utility Companies and ANY OTHER BUSINESS has absolutely no right to ask you for your SSN. They must provide you with another ID# of some type, and they cannot turn you down because you refuse to give them your SSN.

This is a complicated question. ID requirements vary from state to state, but most, if not all, states, require some form of photo ID to do business with any government agency or entity. Contrary to popular opinion, however, a photo ID is NOT required for use of a credit card. It is automatically assumed that anyone who possesses a credit card is at least 18 years of age.

According to the Social Security Administration, your SS card cannot be used as an ID card. It can be used only for social security and medical benefits, and as a Taxpayer Identification Number.

Nope. No law that says you can't breath water instead of oxygen either; but your parents are going to get you a SS number when they claim you on taxes at birth, you will want to earn income and drive a car, live in a house, get married at some point.

there is no law stating that you have to have an id. but yes if you want to drive or things like that you would need one. if you don't have a SSN you technically do not exist...and you are not a legal US citizen.
