Why is it okay for orginizations to exclude white people? Isn't that racism too? Why is it legal for things like Black TV, Black Miss America, and and Black music awards to exist? Thats excluding other races- which is racism. Why is that fair, or legal? Serious answers, please.

I ask similar questions because I'm interested in the root cause of the problem, why it remains, and how to solve it. The best way to do that is to ask questions. I'm curious because I'm a psychology major, not because I'm racist.

Now. "Snowbunny". That sounds racist to me. I'm glad to see that you had to fall back on that. Very mature and enlightened.

If ending racism is about promoting equality, why the need to promote yourself based on your race? Why not go for an award that is offered to everyone, regardless of race, rather then making one for just those of a certian color? Why do you feel the need to segregrate yourself?

The only organization that absolutely exclude whites is the black panthers. There is whites that are on the BET awards, Soul Train music awards. There are whites that are on BET. I do not know about the Black Miss America, I do not follow pageants. So, if whites and other races are included in these organizations, then how is that racist.

I seriously doubt any white woman would wish to run for Miss Black America.

As most pageant queens are white, there are unlimited choices and Miss Black America only carries weight among my people...

If you are speaking of Black Entertainment Television, it is no longer black owned, which explains most of the ridiculous programming on it...

There are two other major black Black Owned networks and they are not "against whites".

I have said this a million times....most of the world is controlled by non black people. If you have truly lived in a minority situation (i know whites that have whether in neighborhoods or at work, etc), then you would understand the need to see yourself reflected in a POSITIVE manner with information to address your particular needs.

I find that most whites are too busy leading their lives to entertain questions about why there are such things and most blacks don't care about how many organizations, networks, jobs, etc are basically all white, as long as there aren't patterns of real discrimination.

You should get busy too.

there are no organizations that exclude white people. none, zero. BET IS OWNED BY WHITE PEOPLE. no exclusion there. White performers routinely get awards at the Black music awards. AGain, no exclusion there. About the only valid point is miss black america, which only exists because Black women were excluded from the miss America pageant. Once Black women were in the Miss America pageant, Miss Black America lost its popularity. Can you even name when and where the last miss Black Amercian contest was held and who won?

Well, there is such a thing as "African American culture." There is no "white culture." If it were a group about "French culture" or "German culture," it would be different, but you can't have a group solely based on race. In the case of African Americans (and Hispanics, and Chinese, etc. etc.) race generally corresponds with ethnicity. This is not the case for a generic group of "white" people.

After years of slavery, social injustice, poverty, uneven economic developments, and racism (as evidenced by this question), white people aren't as much in need of groups to help them go to college and succeed in society. Life's not fair, and it's never been fair. Trying to right past wrongs isn't racist - it's often necessary.

I am not a racist, I half 2 beautiful half black children... my best friend (ADRIA) is HALF black/ HALF "snow-bunny"...as she jokingly put it.

I agree that if we are ever going to live without hate... we need to start making changes now.

*** On the other hand, maybe it's just the names of these particular things that bother people. If you think about it Chinese, Mexican, etc... people have their own channels. We just don't watch them because WE CAN'T... they speak a different language. Black people really on have a few channels, organizations, etc. FOR them. Does that mean that all the other channels are "White channels"?
There is a country channel.... doesn't bother me.

That is so true, the blacks say the whites are guilty of racism and they are just as guilty by having groups just for blacks.
I wondered about this a long time ago when they first came out with black miss America and black parades. Then they still work their way into the white people's groups saying whites are racist if they are not allowed.
Oh! excuse me! it is African American now. They are still blacks, just like there are whites.
Whites don't go around saying "I am German-American or Italian-American". That would be the same thing, country of origin.
I am sick of them trying to prove something.
What are they trying to prove, anyway?
I'm not trying to say they are bad, because I don't believe that at all.

To answer your question, everything that goes on in America sould be for all who are Americans, that would be fair. You are American or you aren't, which would you rather be?

Our anti-discrimination laws essentially prohibit government from discriminating against us based on the prohibited categories (i.e, race, nationality, gender, etc.) and prohibit private business from discriminating against us based on those categories with respect to, for example, employment, housing and places of public accomodation. The TV shows you mentioned involve neither housing, employment or public accomodations and, therefore, may legally establish entrance requirements even if they appear on the surface to be discriminatory. And, by the way, certain forms of discrimination may, in fact, be legal if there is, for example, a bona fide occupational requirement involved, although this is always very hard to prove.

It's the long debate as to why you don't see a "white foundation" "college for white" "white pages" helping to serve and empower the white community" if you heard that on the tv...all television would be cut off...mostly because people would assume that a (white "group") would only be profiting from is something racist because white people own most of america so if they started a (white "group") they would only be trying to have something selective strictly for the whites WHICH isn't necessarily the case, basically slavery and racial segregation is what started it. But white is the majority of America and there is in fact a WHITE segregation from the black community and most of the time it has alot to do with people being too afraid they are going to offend someone for it to come out the wrong way...but if you listen to black comedians they're aloud to make fun of white people...and the white people laugh. but it can never be vice versa it's not fair but it is a double standard...and it always will be,But all in all I personally feel not all black but as a whole that black people are often more racist than whites because they often look at it one sided because they have the freedom of excluding whites from their community. I don't want to hear the slavery bit because I nor my relatives are the ones that did anything to them.
