No one ever says the Devil Rays will catch Boston and the DRays are 13.5 games back and 7 games under .500 like the Yankees.

Same reason they spend most of the time talking about the Yanks - and divide the 30 seconds left to the rest of the teams.

Because they do! It's the first day of June, how much longer is the season? 13.5 is a lot but it's the damn Yankees! They're going to make a run and Boston's not going to keep on the same pace all year, they'll go cold for a while and it will most likely be when the Yankees start turning it on. As soon as this happens they will be in the Sox heads, it's what always happens. The Yankees have way too much talent to stay down all year. Their pitching has to improve, if it doesn't they'll pull some bulls*** trade like always and get a #1 from someone. If they don't catch Boston they'll at least make it very interesting in the AL east. By the way, I hate the Yankees!!!!!

Because the Yankees have a lethal lineup that are underacheiving this year. All they need is a spark to get them going and they will start winning again. Trying to compare the Yankees and D-rays is ridicoulus. The Yankees are 13.5 games back with what 111 games remaining?? This isnt the NFL where once your 7 games back your done. I am still pretty confident the Yankees will turn it around and I also predict a blockbuster trade come June for a big name pitcher and a Big bat (Sabathia, Hunter maybe) Lets not forget just last season the Yankees were counted out after Boston's 5.5 game lead and they ended up winning the east by 10.5 games. You just have to wait to see the season play out before you start celebrating anything.

1) because the Yankees are a baseball dynasty and no one ever wants to count them out because of that.

2) the Yankees couldnt care less about the luxury tax so if things dont pick up they could dump their entire team and go out and buy a winning team if they so chose.

3) If you have that many good players on one team there is an expectation that they (eventually) will come together play well and start banging out wins.

4) the yankees probably have one of the largest fan followings. Plus come to think of it they buy the best team, who says they aren't buying the best media, meaning 'encouraging' media (like ESPN) to present them in a positive light. I believe they are the highest grossing team in the MLB as far as television rights, merchandising, ticket sales, you name it. For that reason media wants to portray them well. The more fans that stick with them (even when they are losing), the more money in the bank for not only the league and the yankees, but for the media who cover the yankees.

It's all about money in the end.

ESPN does it for two reasons....
1. To insure that viewers continue to watch the tremendous amount of Yankee games that they are going to televise throughout the year.

2. Because the Yankees have done it before to Boston where they were 11.5 games out and before the season was over the Yankees had taken first place and Boston had to settle for the wild card.

The media keeps saying this because of history and team skill. The Yankees have came back and beat the Red Sox. Also they know Boston will lose more and their self esteem will fall. The Yankees have enough talent to come back also. They got Derek Jeter for starters. I mean are you a Boston fan. Everyone knows Boston will choke and the Yankees will come and win it all.

The RED SOX are hot and have been hot since the beginning of the season the Yankees however have been out since well before now, I cant see a way that has the Yankees coming out on top, their DL has 6 pitchers on it. With Chien-Ming Wang being their most productive pitcher yet he is still at 3-4 with a 4.13 E.R.A which is avg. and that's exactly what the yanks are...AVERAGE. A-Rod is really their only hope with an AVG of .292 and 45 R.B.I he by far their most productive player yet still Yankees have officially showed that having the largest salary cap in MLB doesn't mean that you have the best team.

because unlike the devil rays, the yankees are proven postseason contenders

theyve also proven they can come back from bad starts (1997, 2002, 2005)

they also have a very talented, if overpaid, team

the team has been plagued by injuries and slumps for the first 1/4 of the season

they can make the playoffs once everything goes right again

You must know absolutely nothing about MLB to compare the Yankees to the Devil Rays. But, to answer your question, teams have come from further behind with less games left and still made it to the World Series (i.e. Astros in 2005)

Because the Yankees have bought every player on the market, and are always expected to win. By the way, I don't think the Yankees will catch the BoSox, their pitching is not good enough.
