Divide:
a. to separate into equal parts by the process of mathematical division; apply the mathematical process of division to: Eight divided by four is two.
b. to be a divisor of, without a remainder.
With division you have a numerator and a denominator.
Numerator - the term of a fraction, usually above the line, that indicates the number of equal parts that are to be added together; the dividend placed over a divisor.
Denmominator - that term of a fraction, usually written under the line, that indicates the number of equal parts into which the unit is divided; divisor.
How do you divide? Thats easy, just calculate how many times the denominator goes into the numerator. For example. You have a division equasion "8 divided by 2" (8/2). Two goes into eight four times. Or if the numerator is smaller than the denominator; say "2 divided by 4" (2/4). Four goes into 2 one-half time.
Simple.

Division is the reverse of multiplication. To divide well you'll need a good grasp of multiplication and know your multiplication table.
The number that you are dividing is called the dividend and the number that you are dividing it by is called the divisor. What you need to do is think about what you could multiply the divisor by to get the dividend. That number is called a quotient, it is the result of division and the answer to a division problem.
For example if I want to divide 10 by 2, 10 is the dividend and 2 is the divisor. To divide 10 by 2 you must think of a number that when multiplied by 2 gives you 10. Knowing your multiplication makes this obvious. The number is 5.
For further help on division, you can check any elementary arithmetic book or merely search for division methods. Larger numbers take more time to divide, but the idea is the same.
Good luck, and don't give up on math.

Division is inverse of multiplication or a series of subtraction of the denominator from the numerator.
Thus if we have 2 X 3 = 6, we also have 6/2 = 3
We can also do the same problem by subtracting 2 from 6 and counting the number of times the number can be subtracted.
6 - 2 = 4
4 - 2 = 2
2 - 2 = 0
Thus we could subtract 3 times and have the answer as 3.

When my students can't do division, I show them how to make little marks and group them , for example, if you need to divide 24 by 6, make 24 little marks, circle groups of 6, how many do you have? Division is the opposite of multiplication, if you know your times tables, you work backwards.

With numbers you usually take the smaller one and see how many times it will go into the larger one. Ex: 6 will go into 12 2 times or 5 will go into 25 5 times.
Since you are asking this question, I would recommend a calculator for you.
