if the slider is in the pond do you put food in pond? or on landand when you first get them willthey eat right away

Yes, the previous two answers are right. Aquatic turtles have to eat in the water because the pressure of the water allows them to swallow their food. If you watch them closely, you will probably see them push water back out their nose afterwards. I've owned several water turtles over the past 11 years. They are really neat creatures to watch and care for, all with their own personalities. :)

Sliders only hunt and eat in the water- they will ignore any food on land.

red eared sliders perfer to eat in water... the water helps them get the food down there throats.
