Q.21 Use the Pythagorean Theorem:
... d^2 = w^2 + h^2
... 14^2 = w^2 + 9^2
... 196 = w^2 + 81
... w^2 = 196 - 81 = 115
... w = V115 = 10.72

Q.22 Use the Pythagorean Theorem, with the largest number as hypotenuse. The only correct option is
... 41^2 = 40^2 + 9^2
... 1681 = 1600 + 81

Q.23 These sets are all multiples of { 3, 4, 5 }, except the third option. This is not a right triangle because
... 24^2 =/= 14^2 + 19^2
... 596 =/= 196 + 361 = 557

Q.24 Subtract the x- and y-coordinates, then use Pythagoras:
... dX = 6 - (-13) = 19; dY = 17 - (-8) = 25
... d^2 = dX^2 + dY^2
... d^2 = 19^2 + 25^2 = 361 + 625 = 986
... d = V986 = 31.4

First question: you are given the lengths of the hypotenuse and one leg of a right triangle. Use pythagorean theorem to calculate the length of the other leg.

22. Again, plug these into pythagorean equation, always using the largest number as the hypotenuse.

23. Same as above

24. Again you have the length of the legs of the right triangle (the difference between the y-values and x-values). Use pythag to find the length of the hypotenuse.

In case you're unaware pythagorean theorem is:
h^2 = a^2 + b^2, where h, a, and b represent the length of the hypotenuse and the two legs, respectively

Um.... so which equation do you desire - the front room, or Nick's mattress room? And who the heck is Nick? yet, if we take the equation - the room is 3 ft wider than X, and 5 ft longer than X, then: the fringe, P, is P = 2(X+3) + 2(X+5) = 2X+6 + 2X + 10 = 4X + sixteen So, say the rug is 8 foot sq.... then, the fringe is 4(8) + sixteen = 32 + sixteen = 40 8 ft.

Anyways, I always wondered what they meant when they say 19" monitor. I have two 19"monitors and they look totally different.
Good to know.
