Many people have these my space, and 360 accounts, some are pretty incognito others are detailed. Is all this personal information on the web a good or bad thing in your opinion?

Its not only about exposing your information its also about personal safety, these are the days of the shredder.

I agree with you! It is potentially dangerous... People want to be picked up, noticed, befriended, or whatever. But it comes with a bag of risks, so to speak.
It's a good question to ask before you reveal too much. I think especially younger people are more prone to list too much about themselves. Hopefully, none of them will suffer for that ignorance. And, hopefully, some of them will read this and reconsider how much information they have published about themselves.

I try to warn people about this and also with phone solicitations.
It easy to get key information over time and a person never be the wiser.
Example; "I have a Dog named spot, what's your dog's name"?
"My dad has a funny name, Joshua Buchanan, what's your dad's name"?
I am Taurus, but, my birthday is border line between when where you born"?
Etc. Etc. and in time they my be able to gain enough information to go down town and get a Birth Certificate, with your name on it! ;-)
Oh! Here a good one I will share. I was standing in line at the store. The man in front of me opened his wallet to pay and there was his Driver's License and Social Security Card in plain view. Now I not have a photographic memory, but, I thought; "Dang, here about all a person need to get his Birth Certificate".

I just think it is sad!! I would rather spend my time being with my friends talking about what's going on my life than spend god knows how many hours messaging people I have never met, updating a blog, etc and all for what?? To keep in contact with a bunch of people who are probably not even who they claim to be!!

I agree with you.
I belong to an Ancestry site. but judging by the emails I get the names seem pretty familiar how do they find them out .
Mind you I dont open them
