Potable means "drinkable."

More accurately, it means "Able to be put in a pot."

So "agua potable" means "drinkable water."

the term "potable" is usually mentioned in new construction, land development, infrastructure, real estate, etc.... Think about it, would you ever say, "I'm thirsty give me some potable water", Absolutely NOT, unless your an idiot!!!! so the rest of your question could be answered at this new forum:
