If you are taking iron supplements, that is a common cause of black stools. But black stools can also be a symptom of bleeding in the upper digestive tract. If it continues for more than a few days and you are not taking supplemental iron, see a doctor, as this can be extremely serious. If you have other symptoms, call the doctor NOW. If you are taking iron, stop for a few days to see if the color returns to normal. If it does, you can resume iron supplementation and ignore the blackness.
Some foods may darken the stools, but should not actually make them black. Treat this as an emergency if it continues for more than a few days and is not iron-related.

No certainty here BUT it may just be something you ate. Once I had a Halloween cake with black & orange icing and my feces had a bluish tint to it - scared the hell out of me at first, but after a few days (when all the cake was gone) everything was back to normal.

That can be a sign of blood loss
Take it to the doctor:a simple test can rule it out
Better safe than sorry.
Some licorices have the same effect:the black Dutch ones.
But rule out that you are internally bleeding.

Dark feces could be from whatever food you've eaten lately...or could be blood in your stool. You should consult your doctor immediately if the problem persists...
