I live in a rural area where mailbox bashing has been a problem over the 14 years we've lived here. I bought the Mail Locker about 5 years ago and haven't had a problem with vandalism since however it has rusted out and bottomed out...mail now gets soaked when it rains...not sure how the water is getting in. Time to get something new. Anyone tried one with successful long term results and still happy with it?

Yes! We had the same problem at our last house where we could actually have any kind of mailbox we wanted. After losing our plain metal mailboxes a couple of times, we bought one of those really hard plastic and I mean really HARD and strong plastic, almost like rubber mailboxes that you can buy at most home improvement stores. They are really indestructible and will last practically forever. We had the same little vandals come through the area several times after we got ours and all the boxes on our side of the street would be lying in the yards but OURS would not even looked as if it had been touched. It was so great!! We never EVER had another smashed mailbox. They might be a little more expensive than the metal ones but hey...after replacing the metals ones a couple of times, the cost is worth it PLUS you don't have to go to the trouble of going out to buy another mailbox and having to put the new one up. Hope this helps!

Have you seen the ones that spin when hit? Almost indestructible plastic , with long , baseball bat-like attachment on the back. If somebody bashes the mailbox, & it spins around & smashes the back of the car, hard enough to break lights, or dent metal. .

Go Brick for those baseball fans out there to bust a bat on. get a box with a lock latching door with key access or a locking slotted inner door type.

I have seen many brick mail monuments out there and never a basebal bat can beat them. so if you got the money, time, and inclination. go brick

BTW they also stop drunk drivers tute-suite!

I would check with your local Post Office. They probably know what works and what doesn't. They may have some ideas to help with any problems you may have.
