Isn't that an initiative brought about by progressives?

absolutely! But the so called conservatives in the SCOTUS think it is more important to interpret the constitution to protect businesses, and not people. This is evidenced by the overturning of a lower court decision in the favor of a woman who was a victim of discrimination at her job....Alito said that she is not entitled to anything beyond 6 months, because businesses have to be protected from malicious lawsuits...eevem though hers was not malicious, was founded, was settled. Isn't it funny how they want abortion returned to the states, but think it is OK to overturn lower court rulings if it involves money and business? BTW, thanks to the SCOTUS, it will be even MORE difficult for a woman to sue for discrimination...a crime that is already grossly under reported. Disgusting...
Islama delnde, although not man enough to stand behind his words, is actuially saying that 'no, he doesn;t believe in equal pay for equal work. He believes that if you can get away with misleading a person, and they fall for it, then he should be protected.' Funny, he didn;t use the example the other way around to say 'if a man gets offered less...', because that NEVER HAPPENS the other way around. At least, not yet...

Yes. I believe 100% that your race or gender should have absolutely no influence on the job you're applying for. However, if you're not qualified for the job you're applying for and a white male gets it because he IS qualified, don't play the race card! Also......if somebody else negotiates a better salary and benefits package than you did for doing the same job, dont' complain! You could have done the same thing!

I do, but I do not support quotas. I believe people should be paid by job and seniority at the job. I do not believe you should hire some unqualified black or brown or yellow or purple person just because they need to be equally represented in that work force.

No, see progressives want minorities to earn MORE than white people.

They want it to be EASIER for a minority to get a job than a white person.

We conservatives just want it to be equal. Progressives had it right about 30 years ago with MLK, Jr. Since then, the minority mantra is "How much can we suckle from the government?" instead of "How hard can we work?"

1) Yes.

2) One could argue that "progressives" violate that very ideal by set-asides or other preferential treatment for jobs, school admissions, etc. based on race, gender, etc.

Equality of opportunity does noe mean equality of result.

Do you think it is up to the government to mandate pay regulations or do you think that in a free country the interested parties (empoloyer and employee individuals) make these decisions freely as a mutual agreement?
I don't think either party (employer or employee) should be forced to do ANYTHING in a free country.

i believe a business owner should be left to his own devices.
meet minimum wage requirments and f the rest. small business is being destroyed by the noses of the gov. being placed in every corner of the workplace. if an employer is going to play dirty, it will catch up with him/her. I.D.E. is right on the damn money! as an employer, the whole purpose of an interview is to DISCRIMINATE! do i want to hire this yahoo or not? can he/she work with my crew? is it a good fit for me AND the potential employee? what's it gonna cost me?
and of course, as a business owner, i want the most return on my investment. DUH!! i try to hire them ALL at the best rate i can get!! if it's 7.50/hr here and 10.00/hr there--so what???!

If people got equal pay for equal work, then no one would need to go out job hunting.
