3 / (x-5) + 1 / (x-1)
3(x-1) / (x-5)(x-1) + 1(x-5) / (x-1)(x-5)
3x - 3 / (x-5)(x-1) + x - 5 / (x-1)(x-5)
(3x + x -3 -5 / (x -1)(x-5)
4x - 8 / (x-5)(x-1)
4(x - 2)/(x-5)(x-1)

TychaBrahe failed to distruibute the 3 all the way through 3(x - 1), which should equal 3x - 3, not 3x - 1

You need to get common denonminators.
3(x-1)/((x-5)(x-1)) + (x-5)/((x-5)(x-1))
(3x - 1 + x - 5)/((x-5)(x-1))
(2x - 6)/((x-5)(x-1))
2(x-3)/((x-5)(x-1))
