It depends on where you live...You would have to look up local laws for your country to find out for sure...
I do know that it's not illegal in the USA...and it's definantly not because we are uncivilized!!!!
Some people just believe that feeding a snake live prey is more natural and there for better for the snake, and that's all there is too it...
Don't get me wrong, I personally only agree with feeding live prey to very few snakes...(like venomous snakes who really aren't pets, because you cant handle them anyway...or Garten snakes that eat fish..you really cant feed prekilled fish..)
But for ANY pet snake, I reccomend feeding prekilled prey...it helps with agression and confusion of a persons movements for a mouse/rat/whatever...
It is also safer for your snake, dead food cannot fight back, and cannot carry disease there for cannot harm your snake...
And for everyone who thinks a snake will only eat live...Almost ANY snake can be converted from live to prekilled...there are dozens of methods of doing it...you just have to find the right one for your snake...
If you feed in a separate container, then most will take the prekilled with no problem, it just takes them a few mins to recognize it...
But Almost any snake can be converted with a little effort...
Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!!!

its completely legal to feed live animals. every zoo in the country does. just go to any petco and look for feeder mice. usualy at the bottom of the hamsters where most people dont look... but if your looking for an alternative some snakes have been known to take dead prey as long as it was still warm. the chattanooga zoo has 5 burmese pythons that all eat dead rats, after theyve soaked in a bucket of hot water. just use hemostats to dangle it infront of the snake. theyre not always that accurate and if you just hold it by the tail it could get your hand.

Hmmm... I am not sure. It might depend on where you live. I live and California and I had a biology teacher in the 10th grade who use to feed his two snakes live mice. I know cause I was the one that fed the snake. I think that most people use frozen mice or rats for they are easier to handle and aren't trying to jump off your hand when trying to put it into the snake tank.

i think of that the existence of the ferret or snake has no lots extra value than the mouse's existence. i think of that's amazingly incorrect to try this to a residing, respiratory creature. The mouse's existence has value, and it grew to become into no longer made to be nutrition. I completely agree that that's misguided. and that i quote you "the mouse has no get away!!! yet it is going by discomfort, worry, attempting to flee, that's impossible" and that's so authentic, the undesirable factor has no administration, over that is very own existence! Animal cruelty is misguided! i can't stand the evil people who try this to residing creatures!

How exactly did almost everyone answer no to this question so confidently without having any idea where this asker lives?
This board is international and laws exist at various levels from federal down to city by-laws.
It is illegal is several Australian states as well as South Africa and some European countries. In the U.K it is illegal to sell live mammals for the purpose of feeding.
That is the legality, whether these laws are enforced is another question.

I don't think there's any laws governing this but becareful what size of rodent your putting in with them. It's possible the rodent could eat your snake that's why its recommend to feed frozen/dethawed.

It depends. You can't feed a live baby, or puppy. But pet stores do sell mice of various sizes for snake feeding. They even have mice called "feeder mice"

Depends on if you are feeding your pet or at the zoo. It is generally best to feed live food to pet snakes, and is perfectly legal. If you are at the zoo, you'll get booted and fined. Zoo snakes have certain diets that the zoo must keep for optimal health.
So, no. Feeding live food to snakes is perfectly legal (for pets)

considering that snakes do feed live in the wild..no. pet stores have permits to sell things like rats, mice, fish, and crickets as feeders. its becomes illegal when you buy a bird chop off all its wings and feet and feed it to the snake. i had a customer tell me he was going to do that and i got his picture of of our security cams and he can not get anything but rats and mice...
