Is it bad to put the dishes and silverware away from the dishwasher if they are slightly wet?

I recently had someone freak out on me because the plates weren't completely dry. Said that we would all get sick if we ate off them. Is that really true? If so, I've been pretty lucky all these year! ;-)

I don't see a big problem with it, but I suppose it would be possible for something to grow on warm, damp plates...

Best thing to prevent this is to open the door on the dishwasher as soon as the dry cycle is finished. The remaining water will evaporate quickly in about 3 to 5 minutes.

Well you can ruin your cabinets over time plus you will have water marks on your silverware and utensils, I don't see how you would get sick unless the plates picked up some mold from your wet cabinets

NO! Absolutely not!! Water (spots and all the rest) may cause many things to happen but illness is not one of them. Unless you allow them to ferment! The soaps used to wash dishes is of a type that prohibits most germ growth. I ahnd wash most of my stuff and I use a spot of common household laundry bleach. No problems that we've noticed.

Chances are that you will use the dishes again before anything bad happens. Then again, moisture is a lurking place for mold to start and grow. Even if you reuse the dishes before that happens, the cupboard will maintain moisture.
