According to one of my cousins they can and do bite, depending on the snake itself, and how much/what type of interaction. However, these bites were evidently not bad enough to make him not want to keep snakes. Probably not pleasant though! ;-)

There have been ABSOLUTELY NO documented cases of a Boa Contrictor killing a human, NONE. All of the incidences of snakes constricting and killing their owners have involved PYTHONS, not Boas, and there IS a difference. On more than one occasion, the snake had been starved beforehand, and on still more than one occasion, the person who was killed was intoxicated at the time, which made them unable to fully comprehend the situation and what to do about it. I've had dozens of Boas, some quite large, and I've never had one constrict me, but I've had some scary moments with large Pythons myself, and would not recommend feeding or handling one without a second person present. Boas are, in my own experience, more reliable in terms of temperament than either the Burmese, Reticulated, or African Rock Pythons, which are the three that are most commonly kept in captivity of the large Python species. Boas CAN bite, and given sufficient reason, will do so, and it will hurt, but it's not life-threatening. Any animal with teeth can bite.

Boas bite. They bite when they are afraid, feel threatened, and are trying to chase away danger. Healthy boas bite a lot.
(Sadly, many boas in captivity are described as 'calm and docile'- most of these are being miscared for. Cold tank temps, low humidities, poor UVB lighting, cramped housing, and illnesses or injuries- usually broken ribs- are common in captivity.)
Their bite hurts, and they can be infected easily (the snake's mouth is full of rodent stuff, after all.)
Remember how they hunt- they grab struggling prey in their jaws as they wrap around it. Their jaws are strong, and their teeth are sharp!

Pitbulllady has it right - boas don't kill people, but they do kill other animals. They can and do bite, but they are not poisonous. Boas just don't get large enough to kill a healthy, full-grown adult.

While boas can and sometimes do bite it's usually because you have the smell of potential prey on you. Even then it's more of a tag than a bite and really nothing to be concerned with.

depends on the size. a big one can hit with alot of force. and the small teeth hurt regardless. ive known many people to have a tooth break off in the wound and cause an infection. treat it with respect, it can still hurt you
