This would not surprise me in the least. They have wanted to create a monarchy and they just about have.
Only one thing.. I think that just might be the straw to break the Bush Regime back. I don't think Americans would stand for that.. there would be all out revolution or mass evacuation.
This poor country can not stand many more years of Bush and Cheney.

Al Qaida just threatened the United States that it'd "forget the woes of 9/11" if it weren't beginning a pullout of Middle Eastern affairs by the end of the year. Yes, it may be easier for something catastrophic to happen right befire an election, just like it would have been in '04 and the dozen elections previously in the middle of a war... and let's face it, what's happening in the Middle East with the U.S. is NOT a war. Speculation on these things is useless, since people hanging around on Yahoo! Answers don't have the power to do anything about it. A nuke goes off, a nuke goes off -- it's up to Bush. He won't suspend the election, he isn't THAT dense (though he did call terrorists terriers)...

I would be concerned about it if it wasnt on a typical wacko Bush Hate website. THis site you cite here (notice the clever use of the antonyms "site" and "cite"? I'm tho thmart!) is nothing more than an outlet hooked up to the Generic Leftian Thinkificator, the device which does all the officially party approved thinking for liberals. There is this little thing called the Constitution which would be in the way of such foolishness as this fertilizer site claims. The Constitution sucessfully thwarted all the recent attempts by liberals to steal presidential elections, so it will probably prevent this as well, if there is any truth to it. If by some amazing fluke this website has accidentally reported something truthful, I guess you better get your evil gun ready and be ready to resist tyranny. Or, most likely, not.

I would bet you a million dollars that this will NOT happen.
But don't take the bet. The fact is that that article is a gross misrepresentation of the Homeland Security bill. For one thing, it is obviously and irrevocably unconstitutional to do that. For another thing, I notice you chose a far left website as your source, and not a neutral one. I also notice that the article does not mention the bill number or point out a single specific reference to the bill. It just takes a lot of speeches out of context and speculates on the Presidential directive. In fact, a presidential directive is not even a law. It has to be passed by Congress before it means a thing. Hmm...
There is no way in heck that this is happening, and I am as liberal as the next guy. In fact, I would not be surprised if a surprise emergency DID happen right before the election. Would Bush stay President? Not in a million years. NO chance. But the Republicans would stand a better chance of being elected. I don't mind the anti-Bush message here, but c'mon! Be realistic. You're making the rest of us liberals look like kooks.

Isn't it funny how closely the wackos from the left parallel and mimmick the acts of Hitler in the 1930s? Everything from pushing the fear and hatred factor of communism to blaming the Jews. Honestly, considering what Hillary just did with the Rowe VS Wade deal, I'd sooner expect to see it from the left than the right.
I doubt the right has much of anything to fear from the left. The left hates both Bush and Dick. At that point, they are self limiting and the line ends.

Of course they'll use this opportunity to stay in power! But will the public permit them to cancel the election? Will the other branches of the federal government concur? Will federal Marshall's be necessary to remove them from the oval office?

if you truly predict this, then you need to invest in tinfoil becuase you are crazy.
The "new directive" is as old as Truman. It simply replaces previous directives already in place in case of a decapitation strike at out nation.
For example, conspiracy nuts also said Nixon was going to become a dictator because of his security directive, which was a re-write of previous directives. His had to be rewritten because Kissinger was not American born, and therefore had to be removed from the succesion chain of command. Conservtive nut jobs said the same about Clinton when he released his "directive" to remove Albright from the sucession because she was not native born.
Next you will be telling us that the free masons used alien technology from roswell to go back in time and make sure that New orleans was built below sea level so that george bush jr. could kill black people in the future with his hurricane gun.
Seriously, you need to step back into reality.
