I know they can't get a hunting license (due to not being able to be around weapons) and they can't vote...I am assuming they can't get a fishing license as well, but trying to find out for sure. I want to go fishing with my brother just like in the good ol' days before he made his mistakes, but I don't want him to just sit in my boat and watch me to do it and he can't...

Go fishing with your brother; he can fish along side you:-)

Scroll down to "Most Accessed Guides" and click on that. A new window opens up. Click on "2006-2008 Fishing Guide." Click on "Licensing Requirements." And there you will find who can have one.

I looked under Michigan fishing laws and found nothing to exclude a felon however, some states issue fishing and hunting licenses jointly (one license covers both) if Michigan does not then I think all your brother needs is identification to get a license to fish. You can call the fish and game comission or department of natural resources and find out to put your mind at ease. The fisheries number in Lansing is 517-373-1280 but it would probably be easier to contact a local sporting goods store (one that sells licenses) and ask them.

Yes, they can. Hunting is completely different due to the use of guns (which felons cannot own, or even be around). I don't think you'll be fishing with a rifle, so you're good to go. ☺
