Why are people so ignorant to assume that everything America does is to benefit themselves? Did they completely forget everything we have done for other countries? I think by now these morons should be able to tell that our intentions are for the better good of the world and for the protection of our country. Not only do we protect ourselves, but we also look out for everyone else on the planet.

Just take a step back before you criticize us and think about what the world & your country would be today if it was not for the influences, the philanthropy, the industry & the protection you get from the United States of America. God Bless America.

"Think of the rest of the world (actually just Europe) like this... they are spoiled children and we are the parents. Which is ironic seeing how most Americans are of European descent. We rebuilt their entire continent after WWII, we defended them from communism for half a century and now we are taking a stand on terror virtually by ourselves. What do we get in return? Ingratitude."

This is probably the most intelligent thing Ive read regarding the issue. Regardless of what these idiots think, we are in Iraq because they are a threat to the security of America. Who give a sh*t if they have weapons of mass destruction or not? They were difiantly against Western culture and posed a major threat to our way of life. Obviously, had we known the civil war would have ensued we wouldn't have gone in. But pulling out now would be cowardly and irresponsible, and America is all about integrity and descency. And that means not promising to do something and not following through with it.

You should realize that the Marshall Plan and the rebuilding of Europe after WWII wasn't done out of American benevolence but to insure communism didn't spread to our allies. To think Europeans hate America is ridiculous, what they hate is our perceived interference throughout the world in an effort to spread our hegemony. It would be ignorance to think anything done in Europe during the cold war was done for any reason other then to protect our own foreign policy interests and the Europeans are far from ignorant. Ingratitude is a strong word, giving a gift and then expecting overwhelming thanks and gratitude negates the gift and is in itself a form of arrogance. As far as the civil war in Iraq, if anybody had taken the time to study the dynamics of the area or even looked through previous intelligence regarding the effects of an invasion the resulting situation would have been extremely obvious. The invasion has resulted in a much larger threat for America and a huge increase in terrorist activities all things that GW's father and Clinton were made aware of by our intelligence community. Iraq before the war was a threat to America in what way, I'm curious as to how you can defend this statement. I certainly love America but at times the arrogance of our leaders is shameful, Europeans, our allies (Britain, France, and Germany) I think become discouraged with us when we don't treat them as equals or totally disregard them to further our own interests. Explain this to all the innocent women and children the US military dropped bombs on in Iraq and Afghanistan. Try using this justification on all the refugees left homeless by Bush and Co's "war on Terror". You sound like all the other pathetic Bush apologists who think his current foreign policy can be justified with the lame dogmatic doctrine of "protecting democracy around the world". The US military industrial machine isn't protecting democracy, you naive fool, it's protecting corporate interests and securing enormous profits for their corporate executives. Don't delude yourself into thinking this foreign policy is benevolent and altruistic toward all people of all nations. Get your head out of the clouds, man!

USA interventions in AFRICA the help you praise from your goverment is aim by the favors you get from Africa
example : the production of African diamonds by American corporations exploiting the african people because of the lack of control from africans goverments neither american goverment

Usa intervention in Latin America : since 1950 America got involve in reshape the area at its own will
example : Latin America tendency to socialists govermenst throw out the area in legal democratic actions according to many constitutions was seen as a danger for the north so they decide to intervine against it using unconstitutional and illegal ways even for there own bill of rights .
so it is ok to go against everything that Americans preach when a foreing country is involve .
People in this world do not have the right to choose how they want to be manage (socialism ,comunism ) unless we choose to be like in america .
what kind of facist BS is that ??
I can keep going on and on around the globe but you do not even got your mind open to see the big picture ,what it is worst you do not want to see it neither !!!

As empires go, America is surely a benevolent one. I grew up in the Soviet Union in a dissident family, and I am insulted -- simply insulted -- by the complaints of people here to the effect that they are being "persecuted" by the Bush administration for their views (the persecution amounting primarily to being arrested for public indecency and denied access to iced lattes for 20 hours). The more I read these boards, the more I am convinced that an internship in North Korea or Cuba (outside a Western enclave) should be a mandatory part of the US public education.

To the people who thumbed me down: So sorry to pop your martyrdom fantasy bubble. As we used to say behind the Iron Curtain, "pravda glaza kolet".

Yeah, good point. USA does do a lot of good.
Here's the problem. We still try to impose our will upon others, and there are a lot of people out there who are going to hate us for that.
You can do a ton of good, but it will never make up for the bad, at least not to those who we have oppressed.

It's ignorant to hate an entire nation. You're assuming that all people in the nation agree with their government. As anyone can tell you, Americans have vastly different viewpoints. So, hating all people in the USA is wasted energy.

What you are saying was true until you had Bush as your president.
Before that, we believed in America, we truly thought it was the land of liberty, we looked up to the American dream, but now this all seems so hard to believe. Look at what you are doing in Iraq, how can this be good for anyone?
