I read this in a book once: visualize, in the center of your brain, a solid black piece of paper, running from ear to ear inside your head. Visualize completely the blackness of that piece of paper. Give that a try.

I can totally understand where you are coming from. I also have the problem of my mind going in several different directions at the same time. My suggestion is to find some Native flute music, scented candles and a bubble bath. It won't stop the thinking completely but will help in slowing it down. I wouldn't recommend medical help though...all they will do is prescribe some chemical drug and turn you into a zombie. If you really need to relax for sleeping, etc., check on-line for some 'mishma' herbs. Make this into a tea and drink while in the tub or 1/2 hour before bed. You can also smoke mishma but it has a smell and look similar to a certain illegal herb..lol! But it is totally legal and safe.
Also remember that a cluttered mind is a sign of a creative mind. You may have some creative juices flowing that needs some releasing. Find a creative hobby or craft that might be of interest to you and see if that helps.

honestly, as much as this is bothering you--i think it would be a good idea to seek out a good counselor just to help you sort through this. it sounds like you are a little "obsessive-compulsive" in that your thoughts are kind of an addiction, something you want to stop, but can't. there are methods you can learn to make this better. there could also be some underlying minimal problem that could be easily treated.
i do understand what you are saying. my husband has the exact same problem. he reads things into everything people are saying, which usually ends up being the wrong interpretation.
i think you are hyper-vigilant with your thinking. if you are highly intelligent and analytic, this doesn't help either...i've had a lot this type of thinking too much and too hard and too long, circular thinking, which tends to bring you back to square 1 with a bunch of wasted time trying to figure things out that should be dismissed.
suggestions:
1) music you enjoy when riding in the car
2) reading good books when things are too quiet
3) learning a new skill
4) see a counselor
5) relaxation techniques
hopefully one or more of these will help..:)

If this is a serious question then maybe you do need professional advice. It can't do any harm.
Are you sure you are defining the problem properly, it sounds to me, reading between the lines, that you may just be a victim of 'day-dreaming'.Or your lack of concentration/hyper mental activity could be a hormone thing.....puberty???
Or maybe you have the makings of a hypochondriac.
Anyway it might be a good idea, for your peace of mind, to ask your Doctor to arrange for a consultancy with a Specialist

I'm no expert or psychiatrist, but I would say you should go to the doctor. I think these are symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder, or attention deficit disorder. It seems you're also lacking the ability to concentrate. Ease off on the caffeine, get enough sleep.
You really can't make your brain stop - it only slows down when you're sleeping and not all the time.

nothing is going to snap inside your head from thinking too much , its the greatest tool man has , take a look around you now everything you see was made by somebody thinking , then doing .... so get a hobby or invent something , have something you can focus on and use your thoughts constructively , you said its giving you problems with girls then just simply think before you speak , rehears it in your mind what you want to say and how you want to say it , again i use the key word focus , you need to learn how to focus more and the best way to do it is by doing something you are good at with 100% ddetermination to succeed i.e. a hobby or invent something that will give you pleasure in doing

Shoot yourself?! lol, I'm just kidding :)
I'd rather have a mind that constantly thinks. I have the same "problem". Think of the saying, "Idle hands are the devil's playground". What would become of an idle mind?

try meditating, that always helps me. just sit somewhere quiet, close your eyes, and focus only on breathing in and out. i always do this when i'm stressed out. if you need some help, try buying 8 Minute Meditation, they have it at Barnes and Noble. You can also get a CD to go with the book.

Sounds to me like you're bright, you lack filters and take it all in at once, you may have a touch of attention deficit disorder. I despise labels, but agree that there are mind "exercises" that you can practice, which may strengthen your ability to focus.
