I answered a q and got to thinking about this, and I wonder how many people knew their great grandparents. How old were you when they passed away? I never knew either of my great grandfathers because they died before I was born. I knew both of my great grandmothers, but they died within six months of each other when I was six.

My great grandmother on my mother's side is the only great grandparent that was alive while I was alive. She lived well into her 100's. Not sure how old she was when she died, but she was up there in age. I can't remember how old I was when she died. I think I was around 21 or 22. I never knew her. I only knew of her. My mother didn't want me around her because she apparently wasn't very nice.

One of my great grandfathers died when my grandpa was little. I knew two of my great grandmas, but they died when I was pretty young. One of my great grandfathers lived for a long time, I think I was 10 years old (maybe even older). I never met any great grandparents on the other side of the family.

None of my great grandparents. I knew only my maternal grandfather, and my paternal grandmother. She passed though when I was 5 and we lived 175 miles away so I didn't know her that well. My grandfather passed when I was 9 so I got to know him a lot better.

No, and I only knew one set of grandparents. My dad's mom died when he was 3 and his dad died 10 years before I was born.

My children (teenagers) know one of their great grandmothers. She is 97 and is about to become a great-great grandmother for the second time! She is an absolute treasure and we are lucky to have her in our lives.

I knew my great-grandmother. We all called her Mama Davis (Davis was my grandmother's maiden name, of course) and she was awesome. There towards the end she wasn't doing all that good. She'd had to have her leg amputated and her skin was so fragile that rubbing against it would give her a bruise. She died at 84 when I was 10. In a nursing home.

I never knew any of my great grandparents. That is an interesting question, because I've never even thought of that before.
