I know this sounds gross, but it works. Urine. Some nurserys sell wolf urine for just this purpose. But I read that human urine works just as well.

I hate squirrels especially when they get in my garden!! Try moth balls. Let the little boogers get ahold of one of those and they will think twice about coming back. If that doesn't work try aluminum pie plates, tie them to the fence or a pole in the middle of the garden something thats gonna make noise when the wind blows. Good luck.

Spread moth balls around. I know if you use them when planting bulbs it keeps the squirrels from digging and eating the bulbs. May not smell too pretty for awhile, but might discourage them from coming around. Also, apple growers in our area hang bars of ivory soap to keep the deer away - maybe that would work, too. They can be very distructive. Good Luck.

A small dog works great!! It don't have to bite them or harm them in any way, just bark. After a bit they'll get the message.
I have a garden and many squirrels. I tried the BB gun but that only works when you see them coming... and they almost never allow that!

Cedar mulch worked for me. I spread about 2 inches thick of the stuff in my flower garden and it stopped the squirrels in their tracks.
Try not to put the mulch directly near the plant roots as this could hinder growth.

I hate squirrels.
I haven't found a way to get rid of them either. I get a bit of emotional satisfaction by popping them with a loaded bb gun I keep by the back door. Occassionally they fall off the tree...I think one flipped me off when it regained its composure.
Have you tried red pepper? I heard that sprinkling this around plantings keeps dogs and cats away...

Yes, they love sunflower seeds, here's what we did, we set out a bird feeder on a tree and put some sunflower in it, they will see it soon and go for that instead of your garden, it works for us. Squirrels are very hungry, so don't be surprised they go trough that feed very quickly.

I hear that sprinkling soap flakes around the perimeter will keep the critters away.
