I have just bought a wall bracket and my boyfriend will be putting our TV on the wall this weekend.

Anybody got any tips please?

The TV is a 42" Samsung one.

Make sure you anchor it into a stud. If you can't locate the bracket on a stud, then run a piece of 1x between two studs and anchor it through the 1x and the wall behind. You don't want to trust hollow wall anchors for a job like this.

we used a ratchet (think that's what its called) to tighten the bolts into the wall. by brotherinlaw works in a garage and its what they use to loosen and tighten bolts. we tried using a normal wrench and spanner but these were not good enough.oh and a drill with a long enough and wide enough bit. the standard ones you get with a drill wasn't good enough we had to go and buy a new bit. it needs 2 people to do this really. and a 3rd person to put all the connecting wires into the TV whilst the other 2 are holding it. i had visions of our TV falling off the wall but its still up 1 year later. we have got a 46" tv. also another tip i was told to do once the tv is on the wall is to lock it to the bracket using padlocks, it will deter any would be burglar trying to steal it

The best thing you can do is make sure you screw it to studs in your wall, I'm assuming your have a 42 plasma or lcd, most of the brackets are adjustable and you should be able to secure it to 2 studs in your wall. On mine, where I wanted to put it, there wasn't sufficient amount of wood to secure it to, because it was a interior wall, I ended up cutting a hole on the back side and adding more support. Just make sure it secure to wood and its not hanging from the drywall.

Make sure you use the right type of fixings for the type of wall.
Most brakets, shelves, etc. come with Rawlplugs (or similar) for a solid masonry wall, but you'll need different fixings for a stud/plasterboard partition wall, or the internal skin of a timber-framed house.

Don't just use rawlplugs use RAWLBOLTS which expand as they are tightened.
BUT
If it is a plasterboard wall forget it!
If you have rubbish breeze blocks like ours which just crumble forget it.
Use brackets which are long to spread the bending load of the television on them.

Check before you buy it the maximum size/weight it supports. And check the TV weight too in your manual or outside the packing box if you still have it around. They all have some extensions to screw to your TV set which gives you the chance to adjust to the specific length and fit your TV. Hope it helps!
