I have tight woven kitchen carpeting, glued directly to the slab in my kitchen.
Can I install Pergo flooring directly over the carpeting?
If so, should I put a vapor barrier between the carpet and the Pergo?

I think the best thing would be to see if you can somehow get the carpeting up. Pergo is a floating floor, so you can technically install it anyway you like. However if the carpet allows the pergo to move up and down a bit as you walk on it, the joints will all slowly work themselves loose and start to come apart over time. It may also feel odd walking on the floor if it has a spongy feel to it. I imagine that glueing the carpet to the cement floor has made it near impossible to remove, so I am not sure how you would even begin to do that. Perhaps you can somehow shave the remaining knap off of the carpet leaving only the backing. If you can do that, then you can install the pergo right ontop of the backing.

No, if you put the Pergo over the carpet it is going to buckle at the seams. If you are having trouble removing the carpet, you can rent a scraping machine which can remove it fairly quickly. Pergo, or any other flooring, needs to be installed over a level, flat surface or it will separate at the joints. You might install it and it look fine for a while, but eventually it will come apart.

No. No matter how tight weaved your carpet is, it will allow movement of the Pergo and the joints will squeak and eventually break. The moisture barrier adds hardly any thickness or give under the wood flooring.

when installing any new floor products, especially name brand ones, it's best to follow the manufacturers guidelines as much as possible. even tho pergo is not the same as solid or engineered wood flooring, there is a warranty that comes with your purchase. if you want to avoid future potential issues and protect your investment, then contact them or whomever you plan on buying from and let them suggest the proper install method - most likely not over carpet.

Sure you can,as long as the carpet is real tightly wooven and is less than 3/8" thick, the laminated flooring uses a padded barrier anyhow so yours will have more padding.I wouldn't use a vapor barrier because it will trap moisture, laminate flooring isn't so tight that it cant breathe. The carpeting will be better than the foam rolls that the stores sell to go under it.
Good luck.

you cant put it over the carpet for all the above reasons, plus think if the dirt, hair and germs you will trap in there, which will lead to mold and mildew issues.
