1.) 1/x+1/y

Multiply numerator and denominator by xy

xy/x²y + xy/xy²

combine terms

y/xy + x/xy

(x + y)/xy

2.) (-3x^4y^5)^4. Simplify

When an exponent is raised to a power, multiply the exponent by that power.

(note that -3 * -3 * -3 * -3 = 81)

(81)(x^16)(y^20)
.
