Each make uses some kind of trans speed sensor. To detect slippage the VSS and Turbine speed sensor tells the TCM, ECM. If the gear box is slipping it may cause a pulse generator code directing you to look at the spedometer Speed Sensor and the pulse generator to check the rpm's of each.
