and it goes beyond normal anxiety and they regress and turn into a little kid and are always immature and don't act their age at all? i have a friend who does this she thinks boys are "gross",watches cartoons all the time, she eats icecream for dinner, doesnt know how to have normal grown up conversations, doesnt understand how to be responsible, calls her mom "mommy", cries a lot and throws tantrums when she doesnt get her way..like she'll actually stomp and scream to get what she wants..i mean we all do these things occasionally but its the way she does it, its a bit scary she doesnt act like a 5 yr old..its like she is one..if you look at how she behaves, its not just immature but its like she doesnt have the emotional maturity for her age??why would someone act like this?

I'm 23, I watch a lot of cartoons, I play on the swing, I play a lot of games, I eat a lot of ice cream and chocolate? and I'm married, my husband gets me lollipops, balloons, and candy all the time. Does that mean I'm scared of growing up? I might not like the fact that I'm growing a year older every year. I think about it, but I'm not scared of it. It could just be a personality type. People have their own different personalites, some act a lot mature to their age, and others act younger. In answer to ur question, it is called:
Gerontophobia- Fear of old people or of growing old.

Something in her life caused her to not mature normally. Usually people stay at the emotional level they were at when some personal trauma happened.
You didn't say if she has always been like this or that it is something very new for her. I would wonder what on earth is going on in her life to bring out this sort of behavior.

Peter Pan syndrome....she needs to get some professional help. If the people around her accept this behavior from her, they aren't doing her any favors. She sounds like a spoiled brat who doesn;t want to grow up and face reality.

may i ask...how old is your friend??? Im just curious. Anyway i dont think she's afraid of growing up i think she's stuck at being such a little kid. And as a "little kid" i believe she finds it easier to get things her way by throwing tantrums and acting up instead of asking nicely and politely. and it also makes her life easy too.

Gerascophobia is the fear of growing old but not nessisarially growing up.
I think this person will most probably grow out of this, it's just taking a bit longer then usual.
