Sounds like your unit is freezing. This happens when you do not have enough return air. Return air is the air that is going back into your unit.
The first thing you can do is change your filter. If you have a washable filter take it out and clean it. If you filter is clean then you will most likely have to call a serviceman to make the repairs.
He should be looking at your charge, evaporator coil (making is sure it is clean), condenser coil (how clean your outside coil is) and how many amps the equipment is pulling.

you need to check and see if the condensation tube/holes are plugged. the water accumulated isnt being wicked away but instead is staying around the coils. I am assuming that you have the ac set to recirculate. Try changing it to fresh air option, that usually helps. Also, go buy one of those cans of compressed air used to clean keyboards, sewing machines, etc and blow all the crud out of the coils. The water will have a harder time sticking around if there is less junk to stick to.

You need to remove the front cover and the filter, use a stiff brush and start at the top of the fins/coil and pull down to remove anything off the coils. Then you need to flush the coils out with water,do this however you can.............normally if your drain is stopped up,the unit will ice from the bottom up,thick heavy ice......hope this helps

the humidity where you live is very high and the water in the air is condensing and freezing. cleaning it will do a little good but not much. the thing you can do is let it fully defrost and run it only during the hottest part of the day
