I bought a house with a wood deck in the back that has treated wood, that is about 3 to 5 years old but it has never been stained or painted or finished in any way. This past winter (pacific north west) the wood turned green and so slippery no one could walk across it. How can I prevent that happening this winter

The key word here is PREVENT, bleach does not prevent the problem next year -- I want something that is not harmful to the garden, but will make the wood deck useable in the winter months.

First, I would powerwash it to remove anything from the surface (it should take the slimy stuff right off). Then paint it with Cabot deck paint. It comes in a ton of colors---even a transparent one if you like the natural color of your deck (even with the green!). We've found it at Lowe's (not at Home Depot), but you may have a local carrier, as well. The paint lasts for some years!

Hun, you can't ever prevent mildew from forming over a long period of time so y'all gonna need to make sure to check out and clean your books up once in a while. Don't store your books in a damp, dank area or it will surely expedite the process. Try putting each book in a Zip-Lock bag and put it under your sink. It should stop mildew from forming for a while. Wish you luck, hun on preserving your books :)

You can use TSP-trisodiumphosphate, you can get it at Home Depot or Lowes, follow the directions and you will be mildew, or algae free!
