If you wash them on a hot cycle (generally the "whites" cycle), they'll shrink greatly. And then will shrink more when you dry them. Try to wash on the color cycle and then hang dry.

Try a better quality shirt. Good clothes either don't shrink, or shrink only a little.

Hot water shrinks cotton. Cold in fine, but as you said, definately don't use the dryer. Hang dry and throw in dryer with a dryer sheet after it's dried to get rid of the wrinkles. :)

they shrink when you wash them which really annoys me cause i always buy t shirts that fit and when i wash them they are too small, why doesnt the makers of them preshrink the fabric first??!!! idiots!
