Here is a thought that Ive been having about WWII. Do you think that the world would have been set up for peace if we had not butt our heads in WWII?

If we had not entered the war, Germany would have taken over all of Europe and the Middle East, Russia would have taken over all of Asia, and the United States would have remained as it was. Probably even better off because we wouldn't have had to deal with the war expenses we incurred. The world would probably be a much better place today if we just let things happen, including world peace and a much lesser risk of rogue states using nuclear warfare.

Let me see now, it was Germany that declared war on us...after Pearl Harbor so how was it that we butt our heads in? What about their nuclear development program, would they have continued if we hadn't entered the war? You do know they were also engineering strategic bombers that could reach continental US target? Your argument is assuming Germany was led by rational and peace loving folks. But looking at Hitler's megalomania, the state-sponsored extermination camps, the enslavement of conquered territories and his anti-Semitism, i doubt the world would've been safer than it is now.

A few errors,

A lot of Americas Wars costs were paid by the British and America held Britain to ransom almost bankrupting her.

Germany was the most advanced country and a lot of modern technology was taken from Plans and designs found. These include the Stealth Bomber, Nuclear Weapons, ICBM.

Although the Jet engine was invented British but it was the Germany's who first used it on a plane. The first modern computer was also invented by the British during this time

Germany only lost the war because of bad decision making and poor leadership. If Germany would have concentrated on Britain instead of opening up two fronts, If Germany hadn't advanced as quickly through Russia, etc then the war would have been very different.

What makes you think that Germany would have stopped on the boarder of the USA? It had sailed U-boats in to New York and if Britain would have fallen Germany would have owned Canada, that a large front to defend.

You seem to forget a few facts
US did not "butt in" into WW2- it was attacked.
first by the Japanese in Pearl Harbour
second when Germany declared war on the US (followed by Italy) and started sinking US ships along the US East coast. About 300 ships in the first month, FYI.

Another error- the Russians would not have taken over Asia- they were on the ropes after Hitler attacked them. Assuming Japan does not attack the US, but the USSR (or simply sits in Manchuria and blocks Stalin's Siberian divisions) then Hitler controls ALL Europe, Asia and Africa- probably within 5-10 years
After which, the US is toast.
Sure, there would be no "rogue states" and no threat of nukes in the hands of mullahs or Koreans- simply because by today there would have been no mullahs left, no Koreans, no Africans,no Indians. Nobody except the "master race".

If you like such "world peace" then just think of the peaceful "killing fields" of Pol Pot's Cambodia.

Is that your idea of Arcadia?

There's nothing wrong with historic speculation, it 'trains the brain' to consider the impacts of what we do 'today' on the way the future will turn out.

But in this case, you'd have to factor in that the Soviets and the Germans hated each other. The Nazi's had a view that the Russians were sub-human. More likely then that the Germans (without the distraction of the British - who would have eventually collapsed without US backing - and the US) would have over-run the USSR and co-existed with a triumphant Japan in Asia.

Then the question is who would have developed the atomic bomb first (probably the US) and who would have developed the first ICBM (certainly the Germans). You'd have to say that this wasn't necesarily a 'stable' world order. The Soviets with their experience of their massive loss of life in WW2 tended to play the nuclear 'mutually assured destruction' game fairly sanely (as did the US). But would a triumphant Germany or Japan have had the same qualms about making a first strike? Probably not, both Hitler and Tojo had already demonstrated a willingness to 'risk everything' on the throw of a dice.

Good question though...

How about you ask a soldier especially a retired veteran from around this time. I guess we can let terrorists just take over America if we just sit around and do nothing. Is that what you want. Get real. The countries that are ran as you suggested are the ones that have the insurgents. Are you so inhumane that you would want to live that way. Get real. Wars cost money. Oh and Japan bombed us first because they are cowards. Maybe you ought to take some continuing education history classes or a refresher course if you have alredy taken these classes so you can have an educated conversation about WW2.

America didn't actually incur that many war expenses. America profited and was one of the few places in the world that progressed during world war 2. We made loads of money off the British, charging them for helping out in the war! America also had a manufacturing boom to make supplies for the war. Haven't you heard of baby boomers? The huge group of people born right after the war, because soldiers came home to a booming and successful country. The golden fifties ring a bell? America did not waste its time helping out in world war 2. We should have jumped in earlier and it's disgusting how we treated Europeans after the war. Europe was actually rationing food to its citizens after world war 2 yet Americans were getting richer and didn't face the same food shortages.

You didn't 'butt in' on WW2 - you entered because Japan bombed Pearl Harbour. Are you suggesting that there should have been no response? No doubt the Japanese and the Germans would eventually have developed bombers powerful enough to have crossed the Pacific?Atlantic and would have started to bomb American cities. And you suggest Nazi Germany should have been allowed to take over the Middle East. What would your gas prices be now, I wonder? And what about the Holocaust? You would have allowed that to go on for ever unchecked? I'm sure the large Jewish population of the US would have something to say about that. Your suggestion is, with the greatest of respect, entirely pie in the sky.

Had we not entered the war we would be the only free country in the world.
Also, Japan (curious how you just left them out) would have controlled Asia, not Russia.
The Nazi extermination camps wouldn't have stopped at six million murdered; the number would probably have reached into triple digits.
Europe and Asia would have turned into brutal slave states and once their power was combined, would then have come after the U.S.; because their doctrine was world conquest.
Don't kid yourself; mankinds demise was closer than you think.

Please read Mein Kampf and a few things about the 'Final Solution'.

Then read the Japanese's handling of their occupied territories. Pay particular attention to camp 731.

Then read the account of the USSR's handling of their people. There's plenty of stories from survivors.

Then tell me that the world would have been set up for peace.

Thank God the US were forced to enter the war. And think about this, with three inimical, aggressive, racist and megalomaniac superpowers, how long would have the US enjoyed their peace?

On the other hand, The Final Solution would have continued and there would have been millions more innocent people exterminated by Hitler based purely on their ethnic background.
Additional millions would have continued to be oppressed under dictatorial regimes.

You might not have your PC because all of the German scientists who came to the US and became involved in our space program may not have ever invented all of the things that got us to the moon and led to it's eventual use in the mainstream world.

Just ask all of the people who lived in those countries during those times (better hurry, most of them have already died) and I dare say they'll say they were glad the US became involved. And remember, we didn't really get involved until we were attacked.
