An MOT is a government-controlled test of safety-related items and emissions of your car. It checks a fixed list of items, but does not include making any changes or repairs. You get a certificate that proves the car met the regulations at the time the test was carried out. You are required by UK law to have the test carried out annually, starting on the third (fourth in Northern Ireland) anniversary of the car's first registration.

A service is regular maintenance. It will include changing the engine oil, oil filter, and perhaps the air filter, checking a number of items to ensure the car is performing correctly, and making adjustments (even some repairs) as necessary. It is not a legal requirement, but is essential to keep your car in good working order. Services are generally required at set distance intervals, rather than at a set time interval.

The MOT ( Ministry of Transport Test) is an Inspection of your vehicle to show it is legal and roadworthy

The service is maintenance of the car ... check and Change Tyres, Oil Filters steering etc

If you have a service the items are checked to a prescribed list set out by the manufacturer and certain
Worn or necessary parts are changed with your permission.

MOT is just an inspection; they don't repair or change anything

A service basically looks at the oil, filters, and brakes. A quick glance at the mechanics of the car. An MOT is a legal requirement for all vehicles on the road, and looks at the car as a whole, including windscreen wipers, faulty bulbs etc etc. It is a thorough inspection of the vehicle to make sure its fully functional

A service looks at the mechanical running of the car, the oil, and air filters, and the general upkeep. The MOT is for roadworthyness and looks at the things that they wouldnt necessarily do in a service!

An MOT is a mandatory annual inspection of all cars over 3 year sold to ensure it is safe and roadworthy.

A service is not mandatory and is to keep your car fit and well by changing the oil and filter, spark plugs etc., and things like the timing belt, which can damage the engine if it breaks.
