A UPS is NOT an alternative power source, simply there to provide a controller shutdown of systems.
The software supplied detects power failure (OK UPS tells the software it's moving to battery power) and then begins a controlled shutdown of systems to save data and protect system integrity.
To do what you want you need a GOOD generator, not a cheap one, a nice reliable regulated one (ie expensive), with an autostarter for if power goes out.
Eash PC needs it's OWN UPS to hold it alive for a few seconds till the generator kicks in.
Unless this is for a mission critical system I would advise simply a UPS to server to shut down.
If mission critical get a generator or talk to electricisty supplier about getting a backup line off a different part of the pwoer grid. Still need UPS's to provide smooth power while switchover occurs

Tofu is correct. A backup generator is the safest and most economical solution. Have a APC 600 on each device and have the generator set to come on 10 after the power goes off. This will ensure you do not have a computer outage between the time the main goes down and the generator comes up.
$40 for each computer or network device, and around $9,000 for a generator that will supply a 200 amp service to a building.
I installed such a system after Katrina and Rita. Ours runs off of natural gas and propane.

As far as I know, UPS are not designed to run a PC, rather its designed to allow enough time for yyou to finish your work and shut down safely, also act as a power spike blocker.
If you plan to run a UPS on each PC, 3000V models should last 1-2 hrs each, but for a single unit to cover all, you will need a generator.
