I don't want bushes or large plants as this is a very small border garden across the front of my house.Something showy but easy to care for would be great. The mornings get very hot during the summer, and the soil is sandy. I have used Miracle Gro Soil mixed with the soil and most of my plants are doing pretty good. Some of the same type seem to be dying out even though they all get the same treatment. Any ideas for color or plants would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Arctotis and gazanias would work well in your garden and they both love to flower their heads off. They also come in really bright colours and would flourish in the morning sun.

There ar e a number of flowers you can try, but there is something else you NEED to know before you try to plant flowers in a hot climate. Regular topsoil is not the way to go. Use either vermicast a.k.a. worm castings or else GOOD QUALITY potting soil. These soils time-release water and nutrients to your flowers to make sure they get what they need when they need it. you can track this stuff down at www.1800TOPSOIL.com or call 1-800-TOPSOIL to see if they service your area. They're national and they're good and fair and they usually deliver, I think. Good luck!

I'd go with dwarf sunflowers and cactus. Stagger the sunflowers and cacti and you'll have a nice showy garden that can withstand the heat and won't be a hassle to water. Good luck! :)
