No it should be definetly left standing a preserved. Holocuasts still happen. Cambodia has one of the most peaceful and friendly people on the earth. But you should read up an a group called the Khmer Rouge and a book called "The Killing Fields." You should look up the recent history of Rwanda. I can think of half a dozen other examples, I don't want to single out those two countries, they are the first ones that came to mind. Auschwitz isn't remembered enough.
There is no such thing as a time of pure evil. There are evil people.

You answered your own question. The camp should not be torn down precisely because it is more than a memorial to the dead, it is also a remainder of what evil did back then, and still can do.
The concentration camps did not start suddenly, as if somebody decided to exploit Jews as slave labor, then kill them in large numbers. The reality is that the whole thing started very gradually. There were a few people pushing to kill Jews, but their numbers and strength could not be enough for the deed. For that, they needed the cooperation, if not the silence of the majority of the population. Such thing happens in other circumstances.
A recent example is Vietnam. US intervention started in the fifties with very few soldiers. However, the people involved decided more soldiers were necessary, so more soldiers were involved. It came to be that in the sixties, a significant number of soldiers became involved, enough to impose an involuntary draft on the US. The war ended not because it was won, but because there were protests in the US, and those voices were heeded by the politicians of the time.

It is a place of pure evil and is open to the public, I went there several years ago when I was stationed in Germany....I never looked at it as a memorial to the dead but more a reminder of the evil that existed then in hopes that something like that won't happen again!
My vote is NO don't tear it down or any of the other camps (there are others open) that stand to remind us of the inhumanaties that once existed and we should all pray daily that we never have to see something like that created again!

Auschwitz needs to stand forever as a memorial of evil and death. There are many people today who deny the holocaust or "shoah" happened. There are few people left alive who survived the camps and soon there will be none to speak out. Auschwitz needs to stand as a reminder to yours and future generations.

It has its place not just in the history but also in the very character of our species. Ever wondered how the Germans ever could? Well look at Darfur today and other parts of our world. This place needs to stay there as a mirror of the dark side of the humanity. Hopefully we will learn by looking into it now and than.

Auchwitz is the name of what was originially Oswiecin a town in Poland and is kept as a war memorial. It serves as a stark reminder and quite frankly if it were 'wiped' off the face of the Earth, utterrly destroyed and removed, then the Holocaust Deniers would have one more reason to say the Holocaust was bogus. As it is many holocaust deniers claim that Sam Goldwyn or some other Hollywood Studio executive sent in a team to create a 'fake' death camp. But as for your question, as horrific as it may be, it is healing for some people to visit, to say prayers, and so it serves a purpose.

We need to be reminded of the evils that occurred there. Those reminders will hopefully help prevent those evils from resurfacing while the rest of the world stands by in a desire to obtain "peace in our time"

If I hadn't spent five years of my childhood in that hellish place I might agree with you. As it is, I think it stands and should remain standing as a reminder to all mankind of the horrors that man can willingly inflict upon his brother man, a standing memorial to mans inhumanity to man NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
