If your IT dept blocked it, that's it. First, we can see anything youre doing if we choose to. Second, it's also a HR issue. Legally the workstation you're on is company property, the bandwidth you use is theirs too. Skype is NOT a secure ap and we dont want any holes in our network. At our work we let people surf as long as its not "unsafe for work" content and as long as they use common sense. But using skype at work is NOT common sense.

I dont understand, with free longdistance on cell phones, why would you ever use something at work?

If its blocked in your office don't try to open it from there... you might end up into legal problems if cught... acccess it from home.
